Do it yourself glassing on a poly canopy

I have a painting question for all you experts out there. I am interested in what you guys think about the idea of glassing a poly canopy. I dont mean making a mold, but layering on fiber and epoxy on top of the poly canopy to get a very stiff and smooth finish. Is this a good idea? I am sick of the flexibility of my current canopy. Additionally, the canopy mounts seem to be continually wearing away the canopy from vibration. If it were glassed and smooth the canopy would look nice, and be very ridgid.

Opinions?

I do not think the resin will stick to the poly. I could be wrong.

If I were doing it, I'd glass the INSIDE of the poly canopy - using one layer of 4 oz. cloth, followed by one layer of 6 oz. Then, remove the poly canopy and toss it. What you will have is a very smooth, pinhole free glass canopy without the added weight of the poly canopy.

I'm not suggesting this unless you've had a moderate amount of experience with fiberglassing techniques, or you'll just get really frustrated and ruin your existing canopy and not have anything to show for it.

If you put the glass on TOP of the poly, you'll end up with millions of pinholes, a very rough finish, excess weight and LOTS of frustrations.

If I can be of further help, drop me an e-mail.
