Was working on my Corona and was tracking the blades. I went to put the throttle in the up position so I could plug in the battery. On the Pegasus you go up, hear a beep, then down 2 beeps, and it is armed. Well I forgot that the battery was still plugged in and when I went throttle up it gave it full power. My hand was in the blades path. Hurt like hell. I still can't bend it and this was a week ago. Still swelled. They said no stiches because I waited too long to go in so they would have to open it up to stich it. They put that super glue on it and a splint. Heli is gone(not because it was the helis fault). Here are some pics. Blood was everywhere. Cut it real bad but it was 2:30 am in the morning and I did not want to go to the hospital. I almost fainted and could not leave the couch otherwise I would probably pass out.

That's why I don't like small electric helis

Did the same thing more or less with a Hornet. It split my thumbnail halfway down the middle.

Well, that sucks! So you got rid of the heli because of this incident?
(btw, it doesn't look that bad...

Hope when everything heals over you can start over, it's a lot of fun once the bugs are worked out.

What will really "bake your noodle" is that you no longer have to go through any "throttle up then down" with modern ESC's.

WMac, this is a lousy reason to dislike small electrics. Similar injuries have been sustained during a nitro "hot start". I think the problem was the 2 in the morning thing; it's tough to know when to call it quits.

Wmac,

Your statements are so true. I have had a couple incidences like ronerick, not nearly as bad what did I do with my electrics after this...bought 2 more! They will never get the best of me!

Hope your finger heals up so you can at least hold the control to fly the sim.

"it doesn't look that bad", under the bandage is the main damage. All the way to the bone, across the knuckle. Hit your knuckle with a dull machete and see how it feels. These are pics I took just now and it happened 1 week ago. I can not bend my finger any more than that. I have to go to the doctor tomorrow to see if there is any nerve or tendon damage. If it'sbad then they will let me decide if I wnat surgery on it to fix it or not and just live with it. I did not get rid of the heli just for that. I was tired of spending my free time(fly time) working on it. The time I spent working on the tracking, wobbles, vibrations, I could have been at the field flying my planes. When I do decide to get another heli, it will be nitro.

Notice in the second set of pics my finger nails are cut and clean. And that is oil from working. I work for the railroad and get my hands in some really nasty stuff. I just got off from work when I started working on it. Walked in the door and went straight to it. And I didn't go to the hospital after it happened. I know they look bad and sorry for the "dirty pictures". Notice the blood stain though. It still oozes, I just took off the bandage and there was still blood oozing out from the cut.

Forget the finger, was the Heli safe and unharmed I had the same thing happen to me, correction, it was the family pet (dog, AKA "Rocky") and I. We both survived. The dog learned his lesson by not geting in the way of the Heli or bark and attack it while it's running. I learned my lesson by double checking the throttle. Anyway just want to share my war story. Hope you're OK now.

Propellers Are Mean Too.

That cut reminds me of when I was much younger. I had just started a cox .049 engine w/ a brand new plastic prop and leand the engine out. As I withdrew my hand, my finger and the spinning prop got in a fight. It seraded my finger, slicing in 1/8 inch gaps down its entire length. My finger looked like it had gills, only 40 of them. Then the blood came. I probably could have filled a 2 oz. shot glass in the time it took me to bundel my hand in my shirt.

I can relate I just got my $#@ kicked by me t-rex nice slice in my thumb and index finger.index finger don't look to straight anymore oh yeah and I can't forget about the large bruise on my forarm.mabye I shouldnt try to land it on my arm like a trained falcon anymore

Your finger will probably be okay. I've done the same thing twice (once with a hobby-knife, and once with a prop). All the way into the bone.

It felt stiff for a couple of months, but its totally okay now. And thank goodness for that. My dayjob is as a computer programmer.

I fly nitro so naturally am afraid of my machine.

It seems electrics have a lot more accidents with regard to hitting self.

My guess is electric pilots don't fear their birds. Or maybe it's flying in an enclosed space.

Hey at least it wasn't your thumb - you can still fly!

It might not have been a 2 a.m. issue he never said what shift he wroked. I work swing shift and don't get off til 12:00 and it is nothing for me to still be up around 4. although if he is a "daywalker" then..........

It might be 'just' a finger. I'm sure many of us have done similar with hobby knives or the like. But it's a good size cut to get from what many people percieve as a harmless micro. Impact with your face or an eyeball could certainly lead to disaster.
