Century Hawk - Falcon - Raven - Predator > Hawk IV kit problem #1

I recently got a Hawk IV kit and have come across a problem with assembly. For those who are Hawk IV builders please help.

If you have an available manual please go to step 15 (page 13). When I
add washers M3x7 to the screw M3x30 where it says to, I find the
elevator bellcrank is stiff to move. Its like the washers are restricting
the M3x7 ball bearing. The more I tighten the screws the stiffer it gets. When I remove the 2 washers everything is smooth. On the diagram there is an exclamation mark (!) making sure you add the washers. Why is it so important? Is the elevator bell crank supposed to move easily? When I tighten the screws to what I feel is a safe torque I question wether or not my servo is strong enough to move the bell crank. If I look closely at the whole assembly I can see that the washer connects the pressure of the short spacer through to the bell crank, making the bearing an irrelevant part. Without the washer the short spacer pushes against the inner race of the bearing and the bell crank moves smoothly because its contact point is the outer race.

If I have'nt confused the issue too much please help. When I am done I am going to add a beginners guide to Hawk IV building to my web site so other rookies can learn from my mistakes.
Thanks

I used the washer - is that a problem?
Tin - I told you you'd get a good answer on here Was the other item you mentioned the spacer that goes with the mast bearing?

The washers made it too stiff to move. Yes the mystery washer was the mast bearing spacer.
Thanks for the help.

When the Hawk IV was released, the elevator lever was upgraded to the ball bearing verison but the instructions were never corrected. Do not use the washer.

When the elevator assembly used the bushings (Hawk III), the washer was critical to ensure smooth movement as the washer actually pressed against the steel axle that extended to just slightly beyond the outside edges of the elevator assembly. Now with the ball bearings, the washer will touch the inner and outer bearing races, essentially locking the bearing.

Changes are in progress.
