There is something to say about the more expensive thermometers. Infrared thermometers cannot read correctly with certain colors regardless of the temp. Your more high-end infrared thermometers will have a diffuser to give a very accurate reading. The tale seems true that you get what you pay for in life. Just be careful. There is a firm that makes infrared thermometers for the medical field but also sells them to the hobby industry. The most accurate device I have seen so far is an Exergen.
