Well...

Fred,
The ION is designed for two seperate packs. There is not really any easy way to mount one big pack except to have it hanging on one side.
I am sure it would work voltage wise, but it might throw the lateral CG off enough to make it fly awkward.

Should work fine. You may have to mount them well forward to keep the ballance because your pack will be about 2 1/2 lbs compared to close to 4 lbs of TP8000-10S4P.
Would have equivallent power to a 60 instead of a 90 but should be fine considering the lighter ALW.

I think you will find it does the opposite.
The voltage is the same it is the flight time that will be cut.
You should expect about 6-8 minute flights IMO and some pretty good performance due to the lost weight of the packs.

In the 2 pack config it should ROCK!
Mine does really well with the stock TP8000's for mild 3D and I have seen other ION's with the 5 and 6000mah packs flying even better.
It won't have 90 killing power till you go with the LRK or Actro outrunner setups, but it should still be fun.

Now if somebody (HACKER!!! ) would get a controller capable of 13S for a managable price ( sub 400.00 range ) we could have some serious electric heli's
