I'm looking to get away from the pod and
boom look and was wondering if any of
you heli flyers do scale and what would
be the best way to get started and what
helis fit scale bodies the best and who can
you get scale bodies from and what are the
best mechanics for doing scale.

i got started by buying a complete kit from hirobo. the fuse and mechs are made for each other. i am nowhere near the skill that most of these guys are here who do custom work on the fuse to make it fit just right, so i wanted to keep it easy.
you can look at centuryheli.com, they have scale fuse kits and a chart to let you know what mechs will fit best. vario seems to be an excellent choice for the serious scale enthusiast.
welcome to the club!

scale

welcome to the dark side.......i mean welcome to the wonderful world of scale helis. like cerberus said, the comlete kits are a great way to go. but if you want to find what your present machine fits check out century's site. i personally like the shuttle as far as a 30 size machine goes. it fits into anything that does not have a high mounted tailrotor. it's simple "a" frame construction and small size makes it very fuselage friendly. i have put shuttles in almost every fuse available for a 30 and they all went very smoothly. the other thing i like about it is that you can with minor mods, put the tailrotor on either side of the boom to maintain a scale look. that only up to the builder though. anyway, whichever route you take, there is a lot of help available to you here on runryder. i've been scaling a while and i still learn lots when i log on.
have fun!!!

If you slap on the extented Raptor50 boom on your R30, you can use the Funkey LongRanger 46 and A109 46 size fuses.
See my page under Luftwaffe / Bell206L

I agree!

I agree with CaliRaptor, the Raptor .50/Funkey Long Ranger is a great match up!
Fairly inexpensive if you shop around, which is a great idea for a first time project.
So check out CaliRaptor's site or The_Dave's @ rotorbreak.com

Heli-Proz has a good deal on the Ergo 60 with the S-300 conversion and an OS 61 engine. $999.99 I think. I'm building a Century Bell 222, have a Long Ranger I bought from The_Dave and am getting my Ergo 60 upgraded to the S-300. Can't spell Schwiezer! Scale is where it's at as far as I'm concerned. Here's the one I got from Dave.

Lots of options here mreed,
I'm like Joss, Emile, and the rest of the guys, scale is my goal. I've had excellent results with the Graupner "Scale System". They have scale in 46 to 90 sizes and they're mechanics are designed for the fuses'. They're fusealge kits save a bunch of time as all the windows and cooling openings are already done by CNC machines.......leaving more time for scale detail.
Jump in there Bud.....I think you'll really enjoy this part of the hobby.
Hope this helps a bit.

If this is your first scale, Get something that easy and simple one. The reason is you may not have the patient to do the sanding and paiting.
Especially waiting to get done and fly it.
I saw a lot of first timers, they wanted too much. At the end their fuses' are sitting in their basements 1/4 done, and finally they went to ebay.
If you have the mech such Raptor or JR or Hirobo or Hawk 30 size/50. The best way is to get the Century/Funkey fuses. Some of them already painted.
Good Luck

This site below has alot of info for Funkey/Century fuses.
