I was shown by a friend how to use the Google Reader (http://www.google.com/reader) and I never looked back. I use it exclusively for reading forums, keeping up on news, etc. To be blunt, if a forum doesn't have a RSS Feed, then quite simply it won't get read by me. The only reason I even registered today was so I could do a search for RSS FEED and discovered this thread.

While your forum has some great tools, powerful and configurable, I would rather configure 1 tool for ALL my reading instead of for each site I visit. It was asked to show RSS feeds for other forums, and here are some examples I currently have setup in my reader:

heli-freak's T-Rex 450 Feed (seems a - is forced on Heli Freak, so the link will only work if you manually remove it)
http://www.heli-freak.com/rss.php?f=77

RCUniverse's 3D Electric Feed
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rss.asp?forumid=237

RCGroups Electric Heli Talk
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/exte...SS2&forumids=17

The list goes on and on, I even have an RSS feed that automatically feeds me any news for the coolest team in baseball:
http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&n...F-8&output=atom

So you can see, RSS is the way things are all moving torward.

There are ways to include advertising in RSS Feed's as to not upset your advertisers. But without RSS Feed support, I expect there will be more and more people like myself who will just move on to somewhere that does.

Just an experiment..

I tried to use feedyes to make RSS's from the most recent runryder topics, here are some of them in RSS 2.0.

They are very easy to add with Firefox. I haven't tested with IE 7 yet. If you don't like, please make your own ones then.

Note: There is only one addvertisement on the bottom of each RSS feed.

RSS RunRyder: Main Discussion

RSS RunRyder: Beginners Corner

RSS RunRyder: e-Align T-REX 450 600

there are no wrong settings.. only different ones..

I hope you also consider contributing to the forums you read. If it wasn't for people contributing, you'd have nothing to read.

Leader, I wanted to let you know that those links worked great, and I appreciate your effort. I now have RR added to my reading lists.

lowandslow, I'm a new heli pilot.. very much a noob. Right now I'm gathering knowledge from various places, and one day, when I'm worthy, I will contribute. Thanks for the concern.

There may be some confusion regarding feed readers, they don't disconnect users from a forum, if anything, it opens it up to more people. I browse through dozens of topic's, spread out among a handfull of different forums, all in my google reader. When I see a thread that interests me, I click the link and go to the source of the thread (in this case, I click through to RR). Once at the source, I read the full thread, and just like anyone else, I either move on to the next one, or post.

If a forum doesn't provide a rss feed, thats fine, it just means that people who primarily use readers (like myself) will not get the benefit of that forums wealth of information at their fingertips, they will have to take extra steps. However, in this case, Leader found a great way to provide a rss feed for RR by using a third party. So now I have RR in my google reader, and will visit this forum as often as I find an interesting topic posted, thanks again Leader.
