Does the Fury ION has a governor built into the speed controller??? Or can i buy one, or should i use one? Or its not necesary? Can i use a GV one on this?

Thanks.

i think you can use a governer but i'm not to sure you should drop a post in the ion section

The JETI controller that comes with the kit does have a helicopter mode, but you aren't supposed to use it and don't really need it. I don't think I've had any problems with overspeeding, but it did take a while to get used to turning 1940 at the head.

Set your curves up as the manual says and fly it.

Oh, Shannon Davis has set up a GV-1 on his Ion. Hopefully this link will work http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=968

everyone that I know with the Ion does not use the the govener mode on the speed controller.
they all run 100% on the curv anything less and the speed controller just eats the extra current.

Just a pointer here, its 80% not 100%...

Actually, I run 85% in IDLE1 and 95% in IDLE2. I can't tell the difference, and my temps are the same, so it doesn't appear to matter much.

the controller just eats up what you are not using so why would you run less then 100% ?
You also run the risk of burning out your controller from what i understand

Vince, if you run at 100% all the time you have no headroom for manuevers that require more power.

If you run at say 85% and run a modified V curve with some cyclic to throttle mixing you will find that you can maintain a fairly consistent headspeed through manuevers and the heli will feel a bit snappier since it has some more power avaiable.

The Hacker (jeti) esc is very stout from what I understand and worst case scenario is that it will thermal off if you run too low a partial throttle setting.

In addition you may find your flight times actually increase a touch running a modified V curve since the thing isnt running flat out the whole time. Others dont like the headspeed to be so fast as the Ion is stock in a hover so they drop down to 80 or 85%

Tabb said...."Vince, if you run at 100% all the time you have no headroom for manuevers that require more power."

I agree with everything else you're saying except for the above. I think it might hold true if you were running it in governor mode so I suspect that's what you meant.

Vince,

The lower the load on the controller, the lower you can safely reduce the throttle curve...in other words, since your hovering pitch is less than max, it is not as hard on the controller to be at less than 100%, versus being at less than 100% at full pitch. And, as Tabb said, you should get slightly more run time, at least in theory. Clear as mud?

When you run 100% the motor self governs itself.
The electrics will always drop head speed until they get to there load voltage. You cannot set up the Ion or any E-Heli like a nitro machine.
E-Heli's make power just off center stick and the head speed will fall until you hit the load voltage.
Nitro / 90 size just keeps pulling all the way to the ends of the sticks.
Also with nitro every minute of flight you are 2 ounces lighter.

huh??

Here, instead of arguing about it, give it a try setup a modified V curve on your Ion. Say 100 to 85 as low point back to 100. Add in say 25% cyclic to throttle mixing and give it a fly.

I can gaurantee that you will find it snappier through manuevers
