I'm looking for a clutch for an endurance helicopter that will allow idle about 2500 RPM, and have a full lockup before 6000 RPM. Most of the spring style clutches won't perform at this RPM level without slipping like crazy. Does anybody have any good ideas? I've thought about going clutchless if needed, but then starting becomes a headscratcher.

Thanks, John Cadwell

Have you considered a clutch with leading shoes, like the Fury? Most of the others I have seen are trailing shoes.

It would be a very interesting starting procedure w/o a clutch.

hey John, how about making a small solenoid powered clutch (set it so that the solenoid holds the clutch disengaged and when you turn off power to it the clutch engages) might be a mechanical nightmare but it might also be what you need

John did you get my email on your clutch issue? I send you a link to
a photo gallery where I show great detail about my clutch design for Robochopper.

I did. That is an incredible helicopter you are building. Currently, I'm considering using no clutch, and starting via the auto hub. If I build an adapter to grasp the bottom of the hub I can start it from underneath a table.

I'm trying to beat the FAI endurance record. The more weight I save the better. Right now I think the all up weight of my helicopter will be less than four pounds. I'm going to use a four stroke on spark ignition.

Thanks again for the information.

What about drilling a hole in the clutch "wings" and filling with something dense like Tungsten or Lead. It would be pretty easy to figure out how big of a hole needed to spread the clutch the correct amount to engage.

Light travels faster than sound, thats why some people appear so bright UNTIL you hear them speak.
