Yeehaw!

Got my Freya up in the air. Still breaking in the engine (1.5 gals) so I'm running it pretty rich. Now I've got an intermittent tail vibration. It vibrates vertically pretty fast. It also twitches sideways occasionally. Turning down the gyro gain seemed to help that some. Engine=YS61st2, Blades=SAB670, Tail=MS95, Gyro=401/9253. I'll mess with the needles to see if that does anything. How do I check the fan balance? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

doublecheck to see if there is any in/out play of the actual
tailshaft, even a tiny amount (once the tailcase is assembled
completely).

It's not unusual to need a shim or two to get rid of it. Hirobo
makes shims of just the right size but I dont know the p/n.

Tail shake

I had tail shake on my freya until I mounted the boom supports in the lower spots.. then the vibes dissapeared.. try that as a help also. The plastic vertical fin seems to shake very easy and seems soft.. if my motor is running a little off it will shake like a madman also... let us know what you find out!

Interesting; I had to do the same thing with a Concept 60.

Must be a "plastic 60 deal"...

it's true. The vertical fin (stock) is soft crap. There are a
number of easyfit vfins you can use.

And yes, do try the lower boom support holes. Be careful
to not puncture the fuel tank and use some washers under the
screw head.

Mine did the SAME thing! I moved to the lower holes and all is well. Until they get a little loose....Then the vibes start again... I think the boom is very weak.. Its very easy to bend slightly by hand! I tried the same thing with my X-Cells and they don't bend...

Thanks guys! I moved the boom supports to the lower position, got some shorter bolts and snugged 'em down nice and tight. Took it up today and voila the shakes are gone!

IMO, the Freya boom is actually very very beefy and thick.

Remember that the XL tube is also alot smaller diameter.

If you want to see super thin, try the Rap60 boom

Z,
Your right the Freya boom is quite a bit larger than the X-Cell boom. But it appears to be more flexible as well.. You can bend the Freya boom a little by hand. I like my Freya, but as soon as the bolts loosen up a little on the boom supports I get vibes on the tail..... You would think that it would be smooth with or without the boom supports. It just seems like the boom is too flexible.....
