Sorry for the double post, but I'm hoping to get a few more responses......

I have been following the recent threads and doing some reading elsewhere. I'm ready to order the Painted ARF Hawk4 / 222 version for the package, although I would really rather build the mechanics from a kit.

My Questions:

What upgrades would you recommend? I'm considering the BB upgrade kit, and the metal clutch. Any comments?

Muffler recomendations? I read that the scale 'box' version is a PITA re: carb tuning and adjustments, also that a standard tube exaust fits OK. Comments?

Any other suggestions?

TIA

Hi bxc53,
No need metal clutch bell, org. just fine. If you want, a 14 piece B.B kit you can order from hobby shop. but, why? it come with 31 B.B.
If your engine run just fine why need adjust carb? I like my box type muffler, very quite. standard tube exaust fits OK but too close body.

Adjusting carb is going to be a royal pain. Learn from my mistake, Run/Fly a good amount of breaking time on the mechanics FIRST before you put them into the fuselage.
You have to take the scale type muffler OFF to adjust the low needle setting. You can run your engine on a runup stand but that won't help you find any problems or adjustments needed on the mechanics.
If you do use a runup stand use the muffler you plan on using with a 10X6 to a 10X8 prop. Leave the main needle setting just a little rich for top end.

Contrary to belief, not ALL new engines come with the correct needle settings.

Good luck

Muffler

I understand the Century has a special "idle adjustment extention" for use with the scale muffler and can be used with any other muffler (CN2030A). It is designed to fit into the center of your throttle arm (into the idle adjustment end) and rests there permanantly. (behind the muffler). This will allow you to adjust the idle screw without removing the muffler

Thanks!

I appreciate the feedback.
I think I'll go with the scale, box muffler to avoid any possible heat problems with the body. I'll look into the special adjuster.
I'll do the bearings too, they are not much $..

Still not sure on the clutch bell. If there were any functional advantage, I'd like to install it before the body gets in the way

Clutch bell

Not necessary - no problems with original composite unit - even in hard 3D
