Hey, I'm a mechanical eng/Cad designer with 22 years exp. and LOTTSA SolidWorks experience. (about as good as you can get).
I wanna' retire and just do my heli stuff. Anyone out there see a market for farming out my talents to the R/C community?

P.S. An example: I am about two days away from a "complete" 3d model of TT's Raptor 60 w/animation. (every piece). I'll be using it for material analysis and design of new parts.

In all honesty, you will most likely need to get a full-time/contract job with one of the heli mfg's or heli aftermarket companies in order to be successful. I could see doing the same thing myself. I would have no reservations taking a new model that comes to market and then designing quality bling for it like Quick UK is doing. Quick UK got it right - quality aftermarket products. Revolution is up there too. There are a couple companies that made it quite obvious that engineers were not allowed to touch the designs!!

Let me know if you need some help. I'm game. Not trying to steel your thunder, but interested as well.

Yeah, I just thought these models and the drawings that are derived from them might be a useful tool for lots of different applications. Like machining a replacement part, analysis of your heli's weight/balance, finding out where stresses might occur if you change/add parts, modify something or design something new for your heli. Example: Add a larger engine, mate it up with yer' existing airframe and parts and find out how it will effect things like wear on the gears and clutch, stress on the frame.....Virtually fly it "before" you wreck it.
Maybe I'll just make all my models available to the r/cer's. Just finishing the R60. Have completed R50, and an old GMP Cobra (makes it easy to machine new parts for the outta' date beast)!
Keep in touch, we'll maybe figure it out.

I would be willing to pay for a pre-packed CAD file of my heli's. Just depends how much. Maybe worth 25-45 bux. which if you sell enough of the could add up to some cash!
