| SC engines,I tested 2 each SC32H and SC36H engines a few years ago. This was in an attemp to find an inexpensive engine to recommend for entry level flying.
This is what I found:
1 - Power about like the older OS28 FSH
2 - After a while, it became very hard to get the top end set properly because the main needle valves had a habit of "creeping" (turning by itself) inward (leaner) until I replaced the spring steel retainer of theirs with one from an OS.
3 - Ditto for the hover setting. After a while, it also became a chore to set for a consistant hover, because their idle needle would also "creep", sometimes inward, sometimes outward, until I would use threadlock to keep them in position.
4 - Non lasted more then 8 gallons of fuel before coming apart somewhere (the worst broke the con rod after only 3 gallons!!!).
Consequently I concluded that though the OS was twice the price, they lasted more then 3 times longer so really in the end they proved to be less expensive then the low priced SC. And then one would have the advantage of an engine that was much easier to set, kept its settings, was a lot more powerful and that when I went to resell it, I could. Nobody ever wanted to purchase my rebuilt SC units, even at our annual swap meets at a price of your equivalnet of 10 STG. ($25.00 Canadian). I always got good value on any of the OS engines I sold. The Canadian importer I was getting the SC's from even stopped doing importing them because of the number of engines he had to replace under warranty.
Buying one was like buying a lottery ticket, you didn't know if you were getting a dud or an OK unit.
So you can see why I obviously cannot recommend them.
Maybe the newer ones are improved, but I will not use my money any more to be a beta tester. |
