Ok, I originally was going to drop my well broken in OS61SXH in the new SE. That engine resides in another heli and suddenly I don't feel like yanking it out of there and also got the "itch" to try the YS for the first time. Are there any installation/fuel system/exhaust or any other issues with dropping the YS61 in the SE? Any other reason I should not go with the YS? Any comments/advice would be greatly appreciated!

I like my ys's! Smooth strong and reliable. A ys61st2 is a good choose I do think it makes more power at 9 to 1. I think it makes as much power as a WC with stock gearing. If you want to try a 23 tooth bell which makes the gearing 8.89 you won't be disappointed. I have a 80 in mine and have used 23 and 24 toth bells I like the 24 which gives 8.52 to 1, the best.
But as I said, a ys61st2 rocks with the stock ratio and after about 6 gallons it really comes to life.
You will need a nut for the crank from HUI or Ricks. Other than that burn fuel.

I have the YS 61 in one and the 80 in another. I love 'em both!!! The one thing I did was get .80 sized mufflers for both engines. The 61 seems to have a bit more power and is MUCH quiter than with the .61 Hatori it used to have! Once the YS is broken in you seldom have to touch the needles...I've flown for the last 3-4 weeks and ain't touched any one of the six needles I own! There IS a downside to getting a YS...you'll be wanting to sell the OS and get another YS for the other heli...decisions, decisions . Chris

Maxx, what clutch bell are you using with the YS 80?

I'd like to get the 24t but was told by Ron Lund that he's been waiting a year. He is using the stock gearing.

flatspin, I've flown my SE's with YS 61's and 80's with no problems. Both engines combined with the belt drive make for a smoootthhh quiet setup.

You'll need the correct adapter nut as Andy17 mentioned (you'd need one for OS too, so this should not be a deciding factor).

You may also have to remove a very small amount of material from the motor mount to make room for engine's regulator.

If you decide to go with a YS80 and can't find a 24T bell, give A&J Hobies a call 905.305.1479 (Toronto, Canada) - they had them on display last time I was in.

Zxyxx, I use the 24T on the .80 and the 23T on the .61! I got my 24T from Bob Johnston at Skyline Models. I believe he has some right now...BTW, he also has the NHP Razors (710mm) in stock for 49.32 GRP$( x 1.46) = US$ 72.00 a set! Royal post isn't bad time or $ wise either... Chris

I'm running the 710 Razors on a OS61SXWC
and Nitro pipe on my SE and the engine has
no problem pulling it.

Bob was running a 'special' where if you get
4 pair of blades, shipping was free.
That was a big win for me and some friends.
The 550's were $47 USD each vs. $75 here.

YS ST 2

Go with the YS ST 2 or the YS80 over the O.S. I did it, and I haven't looked back for 4 yrs now I'm so happy. There great engines.

After being a die-hard OS loyalist for years, I have discovered YS four stroke plank engines. No comparison. Yeah, the YS costs a little more, but man; what a piece of work! Besides, I've had it with OS and their cost-cutting production shortcuts, politically correct "environmentally friendly" (and suck-ass) carburetion, etc.

I have an old, pre-WC 61 SX that is every bit as smooth as the old 61 SFN I blew up (sniff, sniff) a few years ago. It purrs. Never seen a 61 SX WC run like that.

But you can bet the grocery money that the next large helicopter engine I purchase will be a 61 ST II. I wish they made a 30-class heli engine.

Like I wrote previously, I'm using a OS61WC.

That is because I had it sitting in a box. If I
had actually needed to purchase a new engine,
it would have been a YS.

Ys

Ys 80 and Os 91 are the newest versions.
go with one of them
each offering good and less good points.
its up to you. if you dont have lots of experience with engines, Ys can make you miserable, without be faulty, its an engine you should understand. Os is simpler, but both are good.

I think the YS is very easy to use and very user friendly. It runs the same from the top of the tank to the bottom and once broke in you leave the needles alone.
