Blades, Night Flying and Painting > Mainblades lengths?

I Havent experimented W many types of 60 sized mainblades and was wanting to know what the big diff between 660 and 680 was in a sym. type glass or carbon. Im running a OS61 SFN so the HP isnt as hi as a 61 WC so I would like to know if the 660mm would be better for this eng for mild 3D type flight. Im running 660 semi mains now that fly great(great scaler mains), but inverted is BAD so its back to syms again. All info from blade experienced pilots would be greatly welcome as I want to order the right mains for my XL60 the first time thanks, Dave

Longer is better...

Well for me.I prefer the longer bades for more stability.Believe it or not the semi's actually have more lift (right side up) than fully sim's do.I think with an x-cell you can go as high as 710mm but ask others because they are not my specialty.680's are nice also and within the safety margin. If you are learning you don't want $100. set of cf blades. You can get woodies in all sizes and won't feel so bad when you trash them, and you will..

Yea, the semis I have do lift well but its inverted that Im concerned only about. I am just wondering if my headspeed would increase with 660s over 680s, if that is the case id rather use 660mm for the increased speed and sacrafice a lil stability if I must . Anyone know if this is true?

It will.

It will increase. Each type of blade is different. They have blades with special tapering to allow faster response, speed, fff speed and stabilities.660's would speed it up but you would also be giving up some lift and stability.Did you try going through your setup and experimenting? You should be able to raise your head speed no matter what, but the thing is can your motor keep up with your pitch demands? The increased blade size would increase lift so you would have to change your pitch curve anyways, especially if your motor isn't up to it.What types of flying do you want to do?If you are interested in a nice 3-d blade try the v-blades at 680mm.You can ask 1UP in the memer list. He's a pretty cool guy and he has a better understanding.

V blades are too expensive right now I just want to run glass training 3D. In my Quest for power my throttle curve is already at: 100, 90,50,90, 100. As you can see im greedy, a 91 would be NICE!!!!!!
I messed W the pitch curve and it didnt help only got worse over 9 and under 8 so 9 works well on my SFN, my throttle hold pitch is 10. I can get ABmodels 660mm syms for $48 nI may get a couple sets, unless ya all can convince me otherwise.

Once on the web page go to the bottom left to accessories to pg.3 there you will see 660 and 680mm blades in semi and sym. I have a few sets on my Rappy now and the finish is first class white gelcoat and they fly nice!
