Kyosho Caliber 30 & 60 - Concept - Nexus > Is this the WORST canopy Ever?

I have just bought / built a Caliber 30, and being a long-time Concept owner I am impressed by the many intelligent design features in the Caliber 30 over & above the Concept (which was the BEST when it came out about 10 years ago).

The Canopy is unfortunately totally crap, and the underlying Radio tray very cramped. The worst feature is the Gyro mounting, which is too small to accept any except Furtaba (poss JR) style Gyros the more upright CSMs don't fit.
Given the cleverness of most of the design, and the high-quality of most parts, they could have made provision for a rear Gyro tray to accept a bigger variety iof Gyros.

The Canopy is VERY hard to fit (4 tiddly screws) and when in place completely obscures the needle-valve adjustment, and the On/OFF Screw.

So I think Kyosho nee to try again and re-design this, otherwise the (in some ways less well-designed) Sceadu will become the "new Concept"

[I already have a Sceadu which is very good]

Hey, Helimike

I forgot to mention that because of the ridiculous canopy I can't fit any of my current Gyros, so I'm waiting to get a new one that fits prior to flying. I live (by UK standards) out in the sticks, so it will take some time for me to sort out.

The Caliber kit is very good (canopy apart) and seems very high quality with a decent number of ball-bearings, and everything works smoothly with the supplied links. The Drive arrangement is neat, and the engine mount/clutch/starter arrangement very clever and easy to set-up. See the "Is anyone flying the Cal30" thread for flying notes.....

The Sceadu 50 is good quality, but less innovative, it flies really well, after various minor glitches are sorted (pitch-servo mounting, 3rd bearing block, Gears?) The USA kit is excellent value, as it contains some upgrades and dispenses with the Fibre-glass baldes which are too short and (on mine at least) give a frighteningly fast head-speed.

My personal jury is still out, but if the Caliber flies as well as the Sceadu it will get my vote.

I agree on the canopy thoughts, it does really suck!!

But all the other things are well made and easily working - I choosed a JR 550T gyro in mine.- it fitted well, the only hard thing was to "squeze" in both the RX and Gyro amp (solved it by letting the gyro amp. "sit" in the RX space, and mounted the RX in front of the radio tray with straps)

Sunny and nice weather today - looks like flying to me

'Hm now I just have to find out where to connect the GV1 sensor to the Jazz80 ESC.
