I just realized this when replacing a bad UPS battery at work. We have some APC brand UPSs. You can buy the replacement battery for like $30 or so. But it's the same thing as the hobbico 7AH 12V starter battery $19 or so at tower, probably less in other places! Same form factor, everything So we're ordering a couple hobby replacement batteries for our UPSs

Thanks for the tip!
If I ever forget to charge my field box I will grab my UPS. Kinda works both ways

My UPS battery is the same form factor as my flight box battery. It is also 7AH and 12Volts. But, the two are NOT the same.

My UPS uses this special high output current battery, which appears to be designed to handle the huge loads that are experienced in the blackout mode. I recall it had an extra "H" in the Yuasa part number (my memory is fuzzy) and was identified for use with high current applications.

Just keep this in mind. There is a chance that the Tower Hobby battery will not deliver the same performance. It will no doubt work, but it may have trouble under certain circumstances.

RC-CAM could be right about a UPS battery having a higher output current than the one sold by Hobbico.

I'm a dealer for APC. I had to replace my UPS battery awhile back and can tell you it's made by Panasonic. The cheapest place I found was Digikey. I can provide you all with the part number for the battery if you like? It was just under $30 dollars including shipping.

I think I have a very good setup under my computer desk. I have my UPS plugged into THE BEST surge protection money can buy. I've NEVER had a single device hit by lightening with my Panamax surge protector! I'm a dealer for Panamax also. I even have my SuperNova, Digipace, glo plug charger, and wal wart chargers plugged into my surge protector/UPS under my desk :-)
