ShuttleJock Heliman Location: Norman, Oklahoma
| Oh man what a great day!!! Yesterday, I spent the better part of the day with my buddy and Helicopter guru Paul Mathis, setting up my Shuttle. Because of a lack of daylight, I was able to fly only a little bit. I didn't lift into a full hover and didn't get much of a chance to mess with more than the collective and tailrotor controls. Today however, was a blast. I took a few short hops and adjusted the tailrotor trim then lifted into a full hover. I was hesitant to add any cyclic, but I found that you have to get a little agressive until the training gear clears the ground. Once I lifted into a full hover I found that it was quite responsive and I was in hog heaven. I ran four tanks through her and got fairly proficient. I'm not brave enough to do any nose in stuff. That still is a little weird for me. But in time I guess that I will master that too. I'm done with fixed wing!! Call me a helo jock now!!!!
Some of the things I learned...
1). Buy an expanded scale volt meter and check pack after each flight. I loss track of time and luckily the pack went dead after a refueling before engine start. T
2.) Your front yard is not one of the bext places to fly your heli for the first time.
3.) If you do fly in the front yard you are guaranteed to stop traffic. I counted about fifteen cars that stopped to watch and had many ask me what it take to get started in helis. My answer MONEY and patience.
Anyways what a great machine. I'm hooked!!!
Thanks guys and gals for listening. I love it!!! |
