| Like Allen said, you can use it as a slave transmitter. You do, however, feel rather foolish using a $1000 radio as the slave to a $300 pot radio master. Been there, done that...
When I asked, very pointedly, why the trainer function (Code 78) present on the 10SX II had been removed from the 10X, I was told that "top" pilots had been polled on the design features of the 10X, and the trainer function was the first one these "top" pilots said to lose. While I don't doubt that, anyone who has followed the iteration of the 10-series radios can see that JR has apparently never increased the processor capacity, but just added and deleted functions.
Briefly, the 10 SX had ten model memories. The 10SX II had eight memories, three new dedicated throttle mixes, and the trainer function. The 10X is back to ten memories, the three throttle mixes, digital trims, and no trainer function.
It is difficult for me to criticise Horizon (US importer of JR), because they have always treated me with efficiency and courtesy. The one time they made a major blunder with my gear, they immediately accepted the blame and did what was necessary to make me happy.
But I also think that they are heavily into giving us what they think we need/want; or, more correctly, what will sell best. IMO, it is absolutely ludicrous for a top-shelf radio like the 10X not have a trainer function.
JR/Horizon management, obviously, does not share that belief...
