Yea,,, big time,,, it hit so hard some parts bounced 20 feet high !! it had some 70cc Sach in it, man this guy can fly, he was coming in almost straight down, about 65/75 MPH maybe faster, and when he pulled back something broke of the elevator, and it just came in at about 15/20 degrees,,, POW,,, I was the closed to him and so he just looked at me with this look, I could see him tell himself "God I loved that plane", it was some low-wing speedster, I know he loved it because I loved it and I saw it fly only 3 times, it was 6 years old and he could fly it like he invented flying !! The way he looked at me made me feel the same way when my little girl got hurt when she was small,, was, I wished I could make the hurt go away !!, Some where making jokes, I didn't like that, I respected this guys flying so much !!,,, I could only wish I could fly half as good !!!! My hat is of to him !!!!

70cc

Not do dis anyones crash but a $3000.00 airplane that only had a 70cc motor I think your a littl confused, unless it was like a carbon scratchbuilt monoque fuselage, I don't know how it could have been quite 3grand...

I have built two-quarter scale planes with 80-inch wingspans and you can get 2500 in one rapidly by the time you figure the cost of the plane, building material to complete it and electronics. On one I had an OS 300 twin for power, which was around 800 new. This was in a Laser. The other I had a 4.2 Sachs in a Giant Stinger. All had high-end servos, 7 per plane. A 200-dollar receiver, it adds up pretty quick. 3000 + might be stretching it some but it would be close.

$3000 is easy to come up with!!!!!!!!!

I'm in the process of building an 80" Christen Eagle bipe, and the parts really do add up in a hurry...

$750 for a Q75XL engine
$550 for the kit
$480 for 7 giant scale servos
$175 for white monokote to keep it cheaper
$200 for vinyl graphics for the eagle color scheme
$250ish for a ton of other little scale accessories. (flying wires, tailwheel, turnbuckles, etc....)
$90 for a spinner

That's not counting things like a receiver, battery pack, or redundant battery systems, or dual servos.. that's just for the base plane

It's kinda funny

The majority of this thread is based on Wes mis-reading or mis-understanding that a 70cc ($700 +) engine is not the same as a .70ci ($150 +) engine.

Thank's guys !!,,, sorry for being rude !, I don't like it when someone thinks I'm lying, I dont't need to lie to look cool,,, anyway, I want a Hirobo Eagle2 GS (gasser) and I figure I will have $2000 in it the first time it will lift off !
And that plane motor was the Sachs 4.2..

expensive

I guess you cold say you put that much money into an airplane or helicopter but that kind of implies thats how much money would be lost if it was crashed thats all I ment I mean you could spend 4000 on a plane esily but if you destroy it your not losing 4000 your losing maybe 2000 depnding on how far you strip it after the crash.

And if it's not a total loss sometimes we get real pissed and finish it off. Then we look behind our selves and notice everyone is watching so we really loose it and throw ourselves down ontop of all the parts and start rolling around on them breaking everything into tiny pieces screaming out loud................ sorry I'm allright now just brought back some memories

I have to dies agree

I have crashed a few planes in my days and seen alot crashed. Almost never is any of the radio equipment damaged if properly installed and usually the motors are fixable from bending a crank shaft or something like that. But almost never have I seen most of the models destroyed I mean like what he was talking about retracts are usually ok the smoke system if it had 1 usually survives, most often I only see major airframe damage and marginal engine damage.

SENECA,,, you go that !,,,they could not find the carb ! the fuselage was a complete loss ! and only some of the electronics survived, but I would not reuse the electronics !! and it had some discontinued prop that is highly praised in this size plane, and most likely it can't be replaced ! I wonder what this guy would charge if he was commissioned to build a plane of this size ?? maybe $4000 !

5 Sows and Bucks !!

What do you have if you got 5 female Pigs and 5 Male Deers? --- Anyway If I put My Airwolf in with all the time and expense of building I would loose 2 to 3 Thousand Easly !! Most of the time the radio gear is OK but, If a 22 Lb. Heli goes in you can bet things are going to be tweeked and bent including Radio gear. This is an Expensive Hobby and I hate to hear of someone putting in a bird be it an Aircraft or Heli !! It's going to cost!! People have an Unrealistic Value on things without looking at the time involved in building at this level. Months are put into just the finish alone without regard to hours. I can say that if a 27% or larger Aircraft went in at Full power you would be looking at about $1000 in materials, $500 in repairs of equipment and about 100 hours of work (At Min. Wage say $6.75 hr Thats an aditional $675.00) This stuff can add up real quick!! -- I was 18 once and had a bully perspective on things but outgrew it as time went on and began to appreciate others projects and put more work into my aircraft (Trainers to scale). Be easy to people when they give a price on things without knowing all the facts!! God Bless and be helpful to our fellow modelers .

LOST P-38 LIGHT NOT ONCE BUT TWICE GOING ON 3RD TIME

Flying war birds is a past time been doing it for years. My father and I have built alot of war birds. Built a 114" Ziroli P-38. I worked on detailing it for 2 months First flight lost one engine bye bye no flying that one on one engine. It pan caked on landing . It weighed 46 pounds, so there wasn't much left. 2nd time 1 year later had 10 real good flight, lost a engine again!!!! My fault ran it too lean.. real dumb move!!!! Total lose every thing!!!!! went it a swamp. So guess what why not try it a 3rd time but go better get a all glass Robart P-38!!!! We will have to see how this goes. Crashing goes with the territory of flying So I dont even want to add up these two. It had 15 servos and best all real working fowler flaps that took a good 2 weeks to make.CRASH A HELI PUT NEW PARTS ON IT AND THERE YOU GO LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED!!!!

While 3k Sound a little high for and 80cc size airplane it's probably not far off. I have built a few large scale aircraft for a few people and a 40% Carden Edge 540 is around $6,500.00.

The picture below is a 40% Carden that I finished in march and it is being flown by it's owner, I only wish I was half as good as he is at flying airplanes.

The kit, and I do mean KIT is 1099.00 alone plus shipping.

The 3W 150cc engine is around 1600.00 with an addition cost of $150.00 for a set of mufflers, $150.00 for a custom cut spinner and 75.00 for a prop.

With just what I listed it's over 3000.00

Servos 8411's x 10
Rudder = 4
Elevators = 2
Alerons = 4

At a $115.00 ea that's another $1,150.00, we are now over $4,100.00. add to that two 649 receivers and crystals $4,400.00

Add to this 10 rolls of covering, tires horns battery (3) two for the electronics 1 for the ignition. servo trusses, carbon fiber push rods titamum ends metal servo arms and lot of other stuff like glues and you at the $5000.00 dollar mark and you still have to build it cover it and set it up.

Building cost for this size kit is around $1,100.00 to have it built to an ARC $300.00 to $400.00 to cover depending on scheme, paint work 100 to 150 and another 100.00 to 200.00 to outfit (install) servos pushrod pull pull system and balance. So around 1700 to have it built.

like I said $6500.00 + and thats no radio.

So I'll stick with helo's 1500 kit and a week to build.

Total Loss

A friend of mine was flying his first turbine powered model. It was a full fuse model not won of those dart things. Well something went wrong and down it went into the bushes. Then followed a big fire ball. The thing completely burnt. The fuse was just a burned out shell like a used Coleman lantern mantel. If you tried to lift the remains it just crumbled to dust. The radio was just a blob.
I will stick to helis.

little different

ok there is a HUGE difference between a 70cc motor and a carden 40% they are like night and day as far as airpalens go. you can't even compare those. I agree with you though on how much it would cost you for that. but the top post I have a little problem with and I mean a turbine you fly turbine you takes your chances with that. I've never seen 1 burn up though. I've seen a few crash, but still no fire, little curious how it would burn too because jet a isn't nearly as flamable as the glow or gasolien fuel is.
