Man what an awesome vid!!! Its just amazing that that thing can move like that. There was a couple times he was completely vertical! They are awesome to work on too! One of my favs. Did you know that the chinook is the fastest heli in the army fleet!! Two big ass turbine engines!! Awesome heli!!

Great vid! One hell of a pilot! Awesome stall turn!

I have a question tho (for all of you heli mechanics) (white choco)...

How much space is there between each rotor blade? I can see that the front rotor head is below the rear one but it doesnt look like too much clearance between each of the rotor heads.

It looks like the rotors are going to chop eachother off.

Using this precise CAD drawing, maybe you can understand what im trying to say.

White Chocolate has shown me the light.

See... you learn something new every day.

The blades are on the same plane but just intermeshed.

Thanks Will

If they are inter meshed how do you keep the timing right since they run on two engines?

Excellent.. thanks for posting the video... They fly those big boys out of Peoria IL along with C-130's but never seen them flying like that. Nice to see what they can do if called for.

Its a single engine with a toother belt drive.Watching the video
I know the rc one is but what about the real one I believe it has an engine per rotor if Im not mistaken

Correct

Both engines drive one transmission which in turn drives the final transmissions to each rotorhead.
If the timing goes out (a gear strips or something to that effect) the results are not pretty.
There was a video of it somewhere. One overseas (non-army) doing a hover near a bridge and something went and the whole darn thing just flipped and fell.

Something else interesting...when you freeze the video, it appears that each rotor head has six blades, but they are grouped into three groups of two blades each. Anyone know why?

wouldnt it be too much load to have all 6 attached to the head instead make it so that most of the centrifgul load is taken up before it gets to the head not sure but thats what I think anyone have the right answer

it is just an effect of the shutter on the camera there are only 3 blades per rotor head.
