Anyone ever used one of these. The Futaba catalog lists them as car servos, but with 111oz torque and a 0.10 transit they seem like rockin little numbers quite suitable for my cyclic.

What say thee?

Thanks, Guy

As car servos, you expect to see some dust sealing, which should not make
any difference.

However, centering on car servos may not be as good, compared to aircraft servos.

The 9252 is about the same price, and is specifically intended for cyclic use.

The 9450 has metal gears, which are not needed in the cyclic application. In fact, metal gears must be made with more backlash than nylon gears, so are possibly worse than nylon for cyclic use. If nothing else, the difference in gear set prices ($8 vs. $50) should help convince you.

Generally, when I've stipped a metal gear servo, it's been one of the plastic gears anyway. Sometimes you can buy just the plastic gear, or a gear set with the required gear in it, sometimes not.

You've no doubt seen the thread about Servo specs - the 9450 is a car servo, so may well be rated at 6.0 V. If so, then the 9252 will match it when operated at the same voltage.

I'd bet that they would work great for any function in a heli, but they are a little bit overkill in the torque for a cyclic. In addition, with such a high torque AND speed rating they probably suck reciever batteries dry in record time. I use 9252's and the work very well for my CCPM setup. They have a fairly high torque rating and are pretty fast (.14sec/60 and 64oz-in I think, but I'm feeling too lazy to look it up ).

Thanks Phil, when I looked at the specs at TowerHobbies I did notice the 6.0v numbers, and wondered why they listed them that way. I think I will stick to the 9252's.

9450 servos

Guy;
I've got 6 of them and am using them for ccpm on an Xcell and collective on a couple of other helis. They work great, but the centering probably isn't quite as precise as the 9252's. Seems the Xcell needs a click or two of trim every time I fly it. For collective, they work as well as anything I've tried. Hope this helps. Steve.

I use one on my collective. I bought it from a heli only model shop.

i use them for collective on my both XLProII. installed them as a replacement to 9204. can not complain about 9450 at all.

i would not install more than 1 x 9450 on my heli, as they are very much current hungry.

can not tell you about 9252s but i am happy with 9450 centring compared to 9204.

i would not install 9450 on cyclic IMHO this is overkill.

good luck.

I'm a fan of the S9450 too. I use them in my X-CELL and they're very fast and precise in flight.
I suspect they do lack that last little bit of accuracy around the centre, but I think that most servos are moving most of the time (how long do YOU spend in a totally neutral hover?), so the slight extra no-load backlash from the metal gears is less significant.

The BIG downside is if you strip the gears (I've crashed a good few helis and luckily not done so yet), as I belive a new gearset is $50.

Good news! If you just need the nylon gear, you can get it as part of a $6 gear set: FUTM3350 FGS31SH GEAR SET 31/131SH/9401
