| Yesterday, while starting to research a PayPal purchase I made some time ago, I noticed several recent denial of payment notices in my PayPal history over the last few days. These attempts were made with my PayPal debit card (Mastercard) which I've had for over 2 years. They were for various goods and services and for various amounts including subscriptions to Internet porn sites. I called PayPal and they promptly cancelled the card and listed it as "stolen". Kudos to PayPal for their excellent customer service on a Sunday.
Luckily, whoever was attempting these unauthorized charges got nothing as my PayPal account is currently not funded. One of the businesses who was denied payment contacted me by email and forwarded me the contents of the form that someone filled out in their attempt to pay with my CC #. What's disturbing is that whoever it is, also has my personal information including name, address and phone #. I suspect that someone who I have previously done e-business with, has been compromised in some way where all of my transaction information was stolen. Even more disturbing is that the phone number listed in the transaction attempts is my cell phone number. The vast majority of all my PayPal debit card activity is hobby related and anytime I provide my cell #, it's for RC related parts or services.
So, given the chance that some RC related business has had their customer database compromised, consider this a warning and look over your credit card statements carefully for charges you didn't make.
