| I just recieved an e-mail of an unfortunate accident at a local giant scale fixed wing club, ya...I know, it's not a heli thing BUT!
It certainly brings home the point of allowing a lapse in concentration.
A pilot was firing up his 100cc gasser engine w/ 3 blade CARBON prop. He made a couple of errors that SHOULD not happen, his tether had a bit of slack allowing the AC to move forward, his throttle was at half stick as he was hand starting his AC. Unfortunately after the engine fired up the AC moved ahead catching him off guard and severing two fingers of one hand!! The quote was "leaving two fingers hanging by the skin". Someone there had the precence of mind to put the hand in a cooler of ice, I haven't heard any other details, but hope that he will be OK.
My sympathy goes out to ANYONE who has an accident producing injuries of any sort. Something like this brings home the point that we ALL must use caution in our hobby related activites,( and everywhere else for that matter) no one wants to hear about or see this sort of thing. PLEASE!! Lets take that extra few minuets to be sure we can continue enjoying our "toys" without hurting ourselves.....Safety is ALWAYS job 1. |
