Im not sure if they were epoxyed or not we barrowed them so we can burn some fuel but that could have been the problem

HELIS ARE NOT TOYS
Several years age one of our local fliers was hit in the neck
from a blade from 100' away. This person was very seriously
injured and to this day is still scared.

Some site to see!

I've seen several helis throw blades it's something to see if your not on the recieving end of the event. So far I haven't seen anyone get hit and thats a good thing but it's awsome to see. One time a heli was really over reving and a blade went flying we never found it and nothing was left of the bird but a pile of junk. Another time we did find one of the blades at the other end of the park. Thank god no one got hit with it. It would have gone right through them. Not a laughing matter. These things are dangerous. You never know when somethings gonna happen when someone else builds. At least when you put your own stuff together you know you did all you can.

hi all!

does anyone remember the crash danny szabo had in his victory flight at 3d masters in northampton in england in 2004? well as he was doing a tic toc real close to the ground, his tail hit the grass then the main blades. a 6 inch part of his blades went flying behind him and passed over the crowd (it flew about 10 foot above my friends head who was videoing him fly on top of a hill!) but wow, that piece of blade really flew!!! thank god noone was hurt!!!

bye all!

I had my R50 throw a wood blade at about 50 feet up. The blade flew straight as an arrow and then stuck into the ground. The other blade which was still attached chopped the body, main gears, and GY401 in half. It looked like a missle had hit the heli, but without the nice fireball. All this mayhem since I was itching to fly and my carbons blades had not arrived. The roots were epoxied, but it seems like the wood failed due to some overspeeding while flipping back from inverted.

The Foo Shield

Foo, I am serious dude. you should market the thing. with a couple well placed adds and some creative writing, you could market it to beginner pilots.
toss them on ebay as a beginner pilot safety device. technically it makes sense so would appeal to many. hell I bet a lot of rr members would buy them just for a laugh. put me down for one

Thrown blade

A few years ago back in the seventies when heli's were in the early stages a friend of mine had a tail blade shoot off like a bullet. He yelped a bit as it hit his leg but then thought nothing of it until he later felt the blood trickling down his leg! it ended with a trip to the hospital to have part of the tail blade removed that was embedded in his leg, he still bares the scar to this day. Definitley not a toy.

Tail Blades

Anyone who flew a V1 Raptor has probably seen a tail blade fly past them once or twice.

Thank god there plastic!

I would have to like make a stand for it to make it for field use.

I've never seen a blade come off but I had a chunk of lead from a woodie fly past my head so close that I could hear it wiz by. The heli crashed from a small hover more than 30 feet away.

yes i personally think in some ways woods can be more dangerous than carbons. Its their tendancy to come apart, idiots not epoxying the roots, the lead weights. carbons just explode.

FOO You must of ate paint chips as a kid!!!!!
Wait no this just in folks he did'nt even wait for the paint to dry!!! Just drank it right out of the can.

And foo you obviously have a computer with internet. This is one of the most powerful tools there is. So why use a nonexistent word such as "aerodynamicness" when all you have to do is hit google and search for a online dictionary. And on the topic of your "foo shield" If you are that scared of flying your heli there must be a reason. I just hope for the safety of your neighbor and the local domestic/wildlife animals in the area that its not an airworthiness issue.

Not insulting you but Heli baldes Should'nt explode for no reason there is a reason, Be it excessive head speed, Extreme viberation, harmonics, Faulty or already damaged blades, etc. and if you are usure enough in your ability to assemble, inspect or fly heli's to only do so from behind a sheet of plexiglass then I am in fear for your neighbors.
