most, if not all, electric conversion seems to be direct pinion to main gear approach. eliminating the clutch assembly.

i would imagine retaining clutch assembly would make the conversion
easier.

is there any detrimental problem by having the clutch assembly
as oppose to the direct motor pinion to main gear approach?

Actually the clutch just gets in the way. It also weighs a lot and is not necessary. Other than that, I should not hurt to leave it installed.

The clutch is an unnecessary complication - one more thing to align, balance and maintain with no useful function in return. I found it easier to get rid of it.
