The new helicopter arrived today, finally.

Here is a pic of the boxes at the front door. Nice of UPS to leave $2000 worth of stuff on my doorstep.




Here is everything, unboxed. Looks like a lot less now.



And finally, on the desk. Hard to imagine this will turn into a helicopter:



A couple of things are amazing to me, but probably won't be to most of you. First is the size of the blades. They are really huge. It gives me a feel for what a monster machine this will be. The second is the size of the battery. I have my little AeroHawk battery next to it for comparison.

If anyone has assembly advice, I am all ears.

And hopefully someone can offer some early advice.

For a Voyager 50 E, I am assuming I don't need the following:

- Clutch Bell/Start shaft assembly
- Fuel tank assembly
- Tank frame assembly
- Fuel tank (duh)
- Cooling fan/hub
- Clutch assembly attachment
- Engine
- Muffler

Most of those are pretty obvious, but I'm not sure of a couple. For example, is the tank frame assembly a structural element?

Any advice would be appreciated.

You lucky so and so! You got the nice orange noodles. They must have run out of those when I got my AirFoil...I got the nice sky blue ones.

Fun Noodles are seasonal

Unfortunately FLAP, your mount was probably manufactured in the winter...when fun noodles are not sold at Wal-Mart, etc. Case of supply and demand, folks!

been there... freaks me out.

I've gotten a lot of expensive things dropped on the front porch. Makes me think I should modernize my delivery point. An enterprising thief could make a killing following brown trucks around.

I just bought some hot pink ones, I hesitate to use them it was that or sky blue. Used to be able to get yellow pipe insulation at the home improvement place but for some reason they went to a boring tan color, what the hell are they thinking?

A related question.

I am thinking of what color to paint my canopy. Does anyone know what color stands out best against the sky, since I will presumably be looking up? I was thinking bright yellow, but I would be interested in other opinions.

I'm partial to flourescent yellow. Flourescent colors are especially impressive in low light conditions. Looks almost like they emit light.

you will also find that the engine mount is not needed etc...

you will have a few screws and like 2 links left over, keep them.


I painted the canopy Yellow as well, but a little darker then Tim's machine. I also went for the yellow noodles -- got them from Toy's are Us for like $2.89 or similar.

Thanks Dean. This is my first helicopter, so it is a challenge, but a fun one. Before I decided to get into aerial photography, I was planning to get an ARF, but now I am glad I didn't. This really isn't that hard to put together.

As I'm assembling it, I'm making notes of everything, and taking pictures of each step. I've already found several problems with the manual. I'm planning to publish this so that any future heli newbies will have a little more guidance than I had.

Also, I did notice that the fuel tank assembly is needed. It shows up in John's finished pictures. That's where the batteries go (I think)

Another thing I was wondering about is the extensive use of thread-lock. I'm using it everywhere they advise, but I wonder if it is really so neccesary on an electric heli. My guess is that they would have a lot less vibration.

The fuel tank housing is needed, this is correct.

The Rx can be fitted in the fuel tank area, I placed mine on the tray at the nose -- its vibration isolated with rubber damers. I thought it would be better there then the fuel tank area.

Hey all, I have had my airfoil with the pretty yellow noodles for about a month now... what a wonderfull thing this mount is!! But I have run into a problem.. I need a better/more durable ship that won't break the wallet..currently I am using a Freya 60.. any advice?

a gasser wont break the bank if ya dont crash it....

the Predator is the cheapest and touted as a nice ship, otherwise a nice slightly use X-Cell is a nice option.


If ya have to go ultra cheap a nice Raptor 50 would be a good choice, but the nitro mess is a pain in the behind! The TT motors are especially sloppy though!

LOL sky blue noodles....

Back whenI flew ducted fans (before turbines were out) I did a beautiful F-16C in scale colors....now I know why they paint em like that.
Danged thing friggen disappeared agains a blue sky with puffy whites..

I git my noodles at Wally World...they got all colors
