well, my first real crash is a fact! I had just installed my new JR9x radio, with the 539 servoes. Had flown 3 or 4 tanks, and it was like a brand new chopper (since I was used to the Futaba 6x, which really sucked). But as I was hovering about 10 meters of the ground, I suddenly lost all communication with my aileron servo, causing my bird to hit the ground. I managed to rebuild it with just a normal crash kit, but my 539 aileron servo was dead. I tested it after the crash, and there is no signal what so ever. I tested another servo in the aileron spot in the reciver, and this worked just fine.
Has anyone else had this problem with the JR539 servoes?

I had the exact same problem, twice! With JR NES-537 Servos. First time i lost fore/aft control and was able to save it by landing like a plane. The second time I wasn't so lucky, the heli started moving back towards my friend and I, we started running but the heli hit my friend.
My friends was all right, his thick leather jacket took most of the blow.
Both failures were in regular hover, tho it was quite windy on those days. After that, I replaced all the other servos with a different brand.
Possibly a bad batch but I didn't want to take any chances.

Well the exact same thing hapened with my JR 539 servo's. I had about 15 flights with a a entire new pack consisting of transmitter and servo's plus reciever which I installed.

Everything went fine, the installation was done by myself but double and tripple checked by 2 pro's. No binding no nothing. In a hover about 5 meters of the ground the heli lost control and turned on its side, smashing the ground.

Afterwards, On test of the electronics everything was fine, except the 539 aileron servo which was dead, another servo connected to the same reciever tested fine. On checking the servo the gears where fine, but the servo is dead.

I contacted JR and they replied that this apparently is a known issue with raptor 50's. This agent alleged that he had 10 such failures just in the last 3 weeks allone!! The aileron setup in some way contributes to this. Well if it is so then what in the setup contributed to it??

I would love to know so this problem can be fixed before a second dead JR 539 turns up, maybe this time 30 meters up in the sky.

Maybe someone in the know can help us out on this one....

Damn, I'm flying JR servos on my Rappie! Not the kind of thing I want to hear! Unlike some lucky others, I fly on a budget and can't really afford a crash! It'll just be infuriating if it's not my fault as well! Better start saving to get better servos!

The problem is you loose confidence in the equipment, making you reluctant and cousing slack in progress. However this JR539 was not even working hard, this really sucks.

Update: I've been doing several enquiries up to now, Its been confirmed that the Jr agents here, has sent out a memo to all resellers that no JR servos on raptor ailerons which fails (as did in my case) will be covered by their warrenty, even if it is clear that the failure is not due to any mistake in the setup, this memo was sent out 3 weeks before my crash. This shows the kind of problem they have been experiencing.

On further enquiries I have determined that this extend of problem has not yet occured with the Hitec brand and Futaba brand servos. Well not to the extend of the Jr servos anyway. Obviously you have your servo failure all over with different brands but not this type of situation where warrenty's are withdrawn because of repetitive servo failure.

Most instances that came to my knowledge have changed to futaba or hitec and the problem did not re-occur, so that seems like the solution.

I'll update as I gain more info on the extend of the problem.

jr think the raptor roll servo setup contributes to servo failure.

I'm no expert but i have been flying raptors since 99 and have hundreds of flights and have never had any problems. come on jr own up

Some thing does not seem right here

deepE with only three posts on runryder brings up an old post and makes statements that JR won't honor there warrenty? I have found that between the three major Servo/Radio gear makers that JR is the best known for honoring their warrenties. When JR had a problem before with a Servos on a heli they replaced them with a new ones that would stand up to the task.

I would like to know who he spoke too that gave him this information.

I have been very happy with my JR Servos. Never had any problem with them not caused by me.

Rick, Let me clarify the matter, I'm not saying Jr internationally withdrew warrenties, I am only refering to the agents here by us locally. I dont think it is the policy of Jr, I doubt if this has come to their knowledge, since this withdrew was done by the Jr agents here. So untill I know for a fact that this is a Jr directive, I will call this a issue between me and the Jr agents here. This hapened due to the extend this problem occured, locally. I am a loyal Jr supporter, and have purchased loads of their equipment in the past. This situation is what shocks me.

I dont want to name the agents and location just yet. We are still deliberating the issue. However if the problem is not resolved I am willing to make all the information available.

I searched runrider for similar problems, and then found this thread, granted, as you stated with 3 posts on it. I was surprised, because I had the mental picture that this problem is existing all over. This impression was brought to me by this alleged Jr agency. So the extend of the problem locally is not reflected in runrider, propably because this is a non issue elsewhere, meaning a non existing problem. That is exactly what puzzles me!!

Why did the agents withdrew the warrenty, only here by us, in these exact type of situations??

Update: The agents agreed to take a serious look at the component and reconsider whether the warrenty will be honored in my case. I will post the result as soon as it is in.

UPDATE:

The JR Agency here, have decided to honour the warrenty, they took the broken servo and replaced it with a new JR539 servo.

This issue has delivered surprise after surprise for me. As I understood the memo still stands, JR servo failures are excluded from warrenty if it is on the Raptor 50 aileron.

For some reason (unknown) a exception was made in my case...

And pay for it... I've been beating the hell out of a R50 of a friend who used futuba 3001's on his cyclics and it worked great, no problem with those (and there only $12 or something).

He recently installed 9252's and those are way better (what I've been using for quite some time)

If I was on a budget, flying that servo, I'd make sure to get it out and replaced by a el cheapo Futuba 3001~!!!!

Everything is relative in this hobby. You can't expect to spend $700.00 - $800.00 dollars on a heli then put $10. to $15. servos in it. It might work for a little while but someday it will bite you. Those servos are cheap for a reason. You defintely get what you pay for. 9252's are a very good choice and you wont be sorry. I have crashed a heli and nearly a planker for this very reason. For the cost of a couple crashes you can put good servos in.

3d whith woodies are no prob in itself. but u migth come out of tracking in a manuver, and that migth cost u the heli to crash. carbon and fiberglass blades keep better tracking. thats why we use them for 3d and F3C

i have also just had this same problem twice. and i am also not happy with JR. eSmith if these are not good heli servos why does JR sell them with a Heli radio? my lesson is learned i will never run another JR in my raptor 50. I have switched to futaba.

Deep e do you have a link to JR i would also like to get ahold of them.
