Hi,
I was wondering if anybody knew how to get liability insurance for our safety-pilot. We at USC (http://robotics.usc.edu/~avatar) have a couple of unmanned helicopters and would ideally like to liability insurance.

Does anybody have any ideas/contacts, since this field is completely new for insurance

Shouldn't the AMA cover it? As long as your safety pilot is a member.

Other than that models are usually covered under homeowners or renters - so I'd imagine that whatever coverage your school holds will be fine.

I'm assuming your project is an autonomous machine, with the safety pilot acting as a backup in case of failure of the automatic systems? IF that's the case then the AMA probably won't cover it.

I'd be surprised if USC didn't retain some attorneys for liability issues, your best bet would be to see what they have to say on the subject. I'm no expert but I think you'd end up looking into some of the companies that insure full scale aircraft.

mfouche can you shed some light on where I can find insurance on semi autonomus flight, or even just aerial photography. I keep running into walls with the insurance question, and one company won't let me do the work until I am insured.
