Aerial Photography and Video > HeliCam Solutions mounts any good?

I'm looking for a cheap mount I can attach to my Sceadu 50 to try a few aerial shots. I like photography, I like helicopters, it seems natural to try the two together

I lack workshop facilities though and don't want to spend a fortune on what's essentially a speculative purchase. Helicam Solutions deem to offer the most cost effective "off the shelf" solution - but are they any good ?

Any opinions or thoughts greatfully received!

Matt

I love the HeliCamSolutions.com sport 60 plus mount and I have had no issues with the mount, They are well built and tough!
You will not see this thing rattle apart like the other competition!!!!!!!!
and What a great PRICE and fast delivery..Jody is a great guy and will help with any questions you might have about the operation of the mount & setup.

The R50V2 does a great job of lifting it !
Look in my gallery to see more pics.

I saw HeliNuts64's camera mount made by HelicamSolutions.com and was so impressed that I ordered one myself. The communications with Jody is excellent he has virtually emailed me everyday letting me know how my mount is coming along and when it will be shipped. I called and talked with him and he is a great guy that will answer any of your questions and loves to talk helis and camera mounts. I think you would be very happy with your product at a very fair price.

HDPE latteral section pan and tilt frame is the next step up, a more advanced system than alloy types
Solves all the vibration issues alloy suffers.
No conductivity = no RF issues
No corrosion
Lighter.
More than strong enough.

A system made like this would be more likely to work out of the box without any tweaking to stop vibrations alloy types suffer.

If I was to make my own mount I wouldnt make it any different.
But Ive said that here a few times before, search HDPE in here.

CF isnt the only alternative lightweight material that can be used in a mount.
CF for the legs and HDPE for the rest is the best solution Ive seen yet.
Anyone still using cheap and nasty alloy is living in the past and needs to move with the times or risk being left behind.

As far as who makes it, never met them so no idea how they do business but we dont see any complaints to date.
Other than the fact they promote it in here in a way that is not as per the rules Mark has for Vendors and at that rate they should spend the money and pay Mark for advertising here.

Hi

Sceadu 50 hey, save your money and get down to B&Q.

You don't really need a workshop to build this mount, and for what it is it takes rather good pictures.

With the carbon plate, all in it cost me about £25. Made up of overflow plumbing tbe, a selection of angles which you can also get, a hacksaw and a tub of solvent cement, put it togther dry first, when your happy glue it all up.

Cheers

Lee

Are you talking about this post or another? This guy is asking about a camera mount and I see two posts telling about the positve experience with it. Don't see any rule breaking here.

An earlier post on this particular mount was deleted, no mystery why that was the case and its nothing new around here.
See Cyberheli posts.

MPA,

The earlier thread you mention http://runryder.com/helicopter/t106370p1/ was not deleted, it was closed. I think if you look at the thread's last few posts, it is easy to see who had it closed.

Ok I am new to this and also very ignorant about the players in the game. But it seems like you (John) are going to great links to discredit the HelicamSolutions camera mount. Have you seen or used one? I can't help but think you are somehow involved or own your own camera mount system or company. If this is the case why jump in on a thread and tell everyone that the mount they are buying is crap because it is not your design or from your company (assuming that you also sell camera mounts). I am all for a complete review of products with all the pros and cons listed but not blanket statements that have no real merit. John, you will not win customers over by bashing the current products they buy. If you sell camera mounts at a competitive price please include the link in your next post so I can see what I am missing.

Greg:

Just to add some prespective...

So that you know some of the history, John does own a company that both uses and has made heli mounts for many years.

His company is the one that basically developed the design for the mount that the www.helicamsolutions.com people are now selling.

If you compare the two you will see what I mean, Here is a link to John's company, AirFoilHelicam:
http://www.airfoilhelicam.com/pricing.php

As you can see from the responders on both sides of this thread, some people don't like the fact that HeliCamSolutions has basically copied John's mount and is selling it for a lower price - and there are others here that simply just don't like John. Whatever you decide, though, you can't discredit what John has done and that he is still continuing to break ground for the industry.

And on a purely personal level, I have received excellent service and support from John, and love my AirFoil M1-carbon mount.

I just wanted to make sure both sides were fairly represented so the 'other' Greg could make an informed decision! With a name like that we have to stick together and help each other out!

How's that turbine heli camera ship you were talking about? I can't wait to see it!

Take care,

John Ohnemus

John I wouldn’t Call HeliCamSolutions.com a Copy!

The HeliCam 60 Plus is a Major Camera Mount Improvement for a person wanting a HeliCam in the fact that it doesn’t rattle apart like carbon and aluminum!!!!!!!!
It will be interesting to see what you come up with “Copy HeliCamSolutions.com Mount??” For the same true Upgrade to your mount maybe not it sounds like you don’t care anyway with the fact you have not been returning call’s for sales and support so why try to discredit a HeliCamSolutions.com WHO KNOWS maybe you don’t want people to have a mount even yours?
I do see that you respond with negativity and slanders about a very well built product in which you and your company would like to discredit! That being said I could see you treating your customers with the same acts of discrediting and uncaring for support and service..

John I don’t know you or your company never dealt with ya! But we are starting to see you and your company in a negative way now!
I wouldn’t buy one of your mount’s Now just because your so Conceited to think it is Your Way “Camera Mount” or The Highway!!!!

You don’t see Curtis Youngblood not helping someone because they fly a different brand of Heli do you? NOPE! He will help anyone who needs it.
And so will Jody Prather HeliCamSolutions.com
He is that type of First Class Guy
Helping anyone he can no matter what they fly……………..!

Stop the bickering and show us the results.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, I will give you a thousand reasons to show us the pictures.

The few that I have seen that were taken with this system, have not "Jumped out at me."

I'm not about to go bashing the helicamsolutions' "solution". But I do have to take issue what you said. I've been flying my flimsy (implied by you) aluminum Airfoil mount for nearly 2 years on at least a weekly basis and I've been a little hard on it on more than one occasion. It is more than up to the task.

On the other point... I believe that if your plate was as full as John's you might have a little trouble keeping up too. This OFTEN happens when small company is experiencing tremendous growth and at the same time trying to lead the way on the R&D.

I agree that John O. lacks a certain amount of tact on the forum and people take it pretty hard. But he really stands behind the product and I know he's doing evrything he can. I would have gone nuts by now if I were him!
