Just wondering if there is free music out there ( downloadable ) that anyone can use for free. ---- public domain music?

Is music like this available, if so, we could use this for background music in video for clients.

What do you use for movie music?

thanks,
cheers,

Dean:

We purchased a few "buy out" libraries of music for the studio - some are better than others, so take a good listen first.

When you purchase them you have the right to use them in any of your productions.

Just read the small print in the agreement! Even with buy-out, you often can't use them for broadcast TV or feature film work, only corporate work or trade-show type things. Perfect for aerial videos!

Greg,

Can you suggest a source which you have found and are happy with? Perhaps a web site of a company which you like?

There seem to be so many of these, it would be nice to know the reputable ones.

Dependng on what Video Editor you are using, a good program to use to create music is SonicFire Pro. It auto-generates track music for your videos, and there are a miriad of libraries for different styles available. More information here:

http://www.smartsound.com/sonicfire/

I am an Adobe Premiere Pro user, and I really like this app.

In addition, companies like Digital-Juice, make whole libraries available as well:

http://www.digitaljuice.com

But they are on the expensive side. A good source for more of these, is to go to your local newsstand and pick up a copy of VideoMaker magazine. There are quite a few "other" advertisers there, which sell these as well, at very good prices.

Hope this helps you out....

www.iamusic.com has reasonably cheap royalty-free music but be careful to obtain the appropriate licence for your intended purpose. A good thing is the ability to review the complete sound track before commiting to buy. Some sites I only give you a short sound clip which didn't work for me.
