Aerial Photography and Video > Black Widow 600mW Tx/Rx question?

I've got the Tx and Rx and it's been a while since I've used this setup. Does anyone know the dip switch settings for channels 1-4 on both the Tx and Rx?

xmfan,

I don't have the settings in front of me, but if you shoot me a PM or email, I'll look up the switch settings for you and reply back.

Thanks,
Bill

Well.. here are the switches, but hard to do in text:

In this table, 1 = On, 0 = Off

CH1 = 0, 0
CH2 = 0, 1
CH3 = 1, 0
CH4 = 1, 1

The TX is only 4 channels, but the RX is eight so do not use the third switch on the receiver (leave it down).

If I remember correctly the receiver may be opposite from the transmitter. For example for channel 2 you may have 0, 1 on the TX but 1, 0 on the receiver.

Just flip the switches until the reception is clear.

Thanks Rich, saved me some digging :-)

Good point about the receiver.... leave that third switch 'down'!

The only time that third switch is used is in conjunction with my new 39 gram, 1 watt transmitter:

1 Watt? Going to be sending video from the moon?

ha!

Yes, good point

Although 1w is only 400mw more than the 600mw unit so it's not even twice the range.

The real benefit is for folks who prefer to operate at a native 12v because they already have a camera at 12v, or want the extra channels to try to avoid interference from competing devices.

Bill,

This sounds good for the 12 volters..

The 600mw seems to work just perfect with a 4 cell NiCad pack (4.8v), since I need one of these for my receiver and servos, this saves another battery for me.

We have the 600mw unit as well!

We have been using the Blackwidowav TX/RX unit with excellent results!

I recommend adding the disk antennae he sells to your copter, especially if you are rotating your camera or antennae placement a lot. Ours cuts out once in a million years and its when we are spinning the camera and subsequently the antennae. Blackwidow also sells a flat patch style ground antennea that increases everything greatly!

We recently got tired of charging many varying voltages and so I built a 6 volt battery pack that steps down the voltage for all accessories on my camera gimble:
6 Volt, 1800mah pack (For video TX)
tapped into the 6 volt to create 4.8volt for Radio RX on camera unit
We then charge the 6 volt and it covers the other voltages at the same time! Love this and it was so easy, no regulators etc! We used the Radio Shack AA rechargables and works great! Weve been flying this pack for hours at a time!

Oh, Forgot!

When we bought the 600mw TX/RX it came with a sticker on it saying 5.5 volts! This was a problem in that that voltage is odd. Turns out it has a variable voltage of 5.5 to 8.4 volts, we use 6 volts.

Dave,

What 'disk antenna' are you referring to?

I keep my TX antenna 'vertical' this makes it more or less omni directional and then use the circular polarized patch antenna. This works great together.

As I mentioned, the 600mw TX runs just great from a 4.8Vdc NiCad pack which also runs my second RC receiver which runs the camera trigger, etc.

Bill,

Thanks for this info.

Now you have to work on your web site. I would probably had ordered one of these just to experiment with it had I seen it.

I couldn't find this on your web site when I went looking for all of my options when ordering. I went through all the product pages and your catalog and haven't seen this at all.

Now I have to ask, what else am I missing?

3dBi, how does that compare to the normal 'dipole' you ship with the 600mw TXs?

Hey Rich,

You are right about the website... a minor redesign is in order

3dbi is equivalent to the existing dipole... you are not getting extra gain with the new antenna, just a better form factor for some installations.

Hi Bill,

Hmm.. perhaps I should offer to trade some web page design for product!

I didn't expect the 'stock' antenna to be much more, but I certainly wouldn't want it to be less than the disk.

I think most of the issue with these frequencies is loss in the interconnecting cables, so I prefer things with very short connections. The stock antenna fits this well IMHO.

I keep mine vertical and it seems to work well for me.
