I am still working on my portfoilo.

I shot some realestate this morning just after sunrise.

Shooting realestate is tricky it seems. Some times there is not a lot of room. So, in order to get a good shot with house/structure in frame you have to be fairly high and distane in some crammed subdivisions.

any tips on shooting realestate?
Angle of camera?
Mode of camera?
Time of day?

Cheers,
Dean

Realestate

Hi Dean,

I shoot quite a few real estate pictures as well as development sites. I've found that you have to shoot in the highest resolution the camera will allow, set the camera to focus to infinity, set the camera to auto expose, and make sure if the camrera has a zoom function it is set to minimum zoom.

You can adjust the digital pictures in whatever you use for digital manipulation software for composure, color correction, and how tight you want the shot to look. Life becomes easier if the shot is initally framed correctly and the color balance is near to being correct.

hope this helps

Real Estate

Dean,
I just started on my portfolio and found the same you did. Real estate could be tricky depending of the size of the houses. I went yesterday to take some pictures of business buildings and found to be too close to the building where I almost did not get the entire building on the picture. I set my camera to infinitive and taking pictures about 100 ft horizontally to the subject may be too close. So may be the best way is to go higher at 45 degrees from the subject. What I am thinking is to take pictures of expensive home where for the most part are bigger and there is more space between them. I also think that a real estate company will be more welling to spend our photo feeds to sell a home that sell for $250.000 than a home that sell for $100.000. So, they can justify $150.-$250 in aerial photos. What do you think?

Regards,
Hector

I have a dilema but I can not decide

Walter: Thanks for the tips. By the way, good site!

Hecktor: Yeah, I have noticed in my images so far of development structures and realestate/housing need height and distance more then I initially thought, but it all comes with practice I guess.

I agree with what you mention about the realestate companies... they would likely buy into photos for a bigger and more expensive house, I am looking to set up meetings with the big guys within the coming weeks.

PS I got a few shots this evening and afternoon of some great new housing areas. I will upload them this weekend.

cheers and thanks guys.

Some humble advice from a newbie

Ho guys, we are new at this but are getting quite lucky so far so for all its worth heres our input...

Staging areas seem to be critical. You have to set down in a safe place for safety obviously. We are finding that if we shoot the pictures in a forward flight we are getting excellent results. Again with the suggested settings of infinity etc... You can cheat a bit if you have wide angle lenses. For the width they gain they also push out the picture which allows you to fly closer in the case when trees are nearby.

We choose to try not to edit the pictures on the computer if able to do so because you will lose some clarity if you do crop etc... We mainly use it to remove us from a picture or level the shot if it was taken in a trun etc.. When we preplan our shots we place ourselves and our van either out of view and fly to the shot or if have to be in the shot we place ourselves in the center of a spot that only has one color (IE: grass) this makes for an easy edit later in removing us.

Looking for afordable editing and other software with easy and great results? We use microsoft digital image 9.0 pro (Under $100)
Microsoft movie maker, and Roxio drag to disk software....The result... an easy editing software package that you dont need a degree to use! We have also used movie maker for CD video presentations that include overlays, music, stills and videos! Then burn them to cd and mail them out! Its that easy!
