Tryed to stop the blades after landing to measure temperature but was still thinking that I was flying my 30 but damn it was my 60 and this thing has way longer blades than the 30 so here are the results.

In other words how your leg can destroy your SABs or how your SABs can cause two stitches in your leg

It was just the second time I was using those blades

Dude, you need to SHAVE!!

Nothin' else hurt on the heli, is there?

Sorry for your loss. Don't wash them jeans, they're a badge of honor.

Hope that boo-boo heals real fast.

Did anybody get it on video??

I might not be very good, but I'm fun to watch.

Here is what I do to prevent this.

I let the helicopter sit on the ground for 30 seconds to a minute. Since I have -5 degrees pitch they slow down to a safe speed within that time. I sometimes get hit with the blades on a 60 even having a long arm span, but it doesn't hurt or do any damage because the headspeed is probably under 500 rpms if that ever happens.

There have been other accidents while stopping the blades with a 60, you are not the first and probably not the last.

Safety first..

Ok I know we all like to tinker, and get measurments etc, but damn, I let mine stop, and I mean stop before gettin gnear it. I only run a 30, but treat it like it was a full size heli. My friends think I am silly, as I check and recheck where my transmiter is when starting just in case it flys away from me I can grab it quick. This just goes to show you how much energy those little white peices of plastic have in them. Hope you heal up quick..

I generally hit throttle hold and then gently give it some pitch to slow the blades.

Did that once to my leg - no where near as bad though - the heli was mostly spooled down - didn't break the blades (thank god!), but it hurt like a SOB! I had a huge welt on my leg for months after that one!

Watch out for them dumb blades!

i have to say that SPB sotiris was very lucky, as i was standning few metres away from him in my jeep resting.. the day was very shiny here in greece and we where flying all day. as it was obvious the most logical reason was to mess with the distance not from the raptor 30 he has but from the real heli that land it few minutes before... :P just joking the sun was burning above our heads and the most logical reason is he might felt a little swirl from it so he mess with the distance...
anyway the true is that we had a perfect day last sunday but the sure thing is that we will not ever fly again before 5:00 pm

the only thing that wasn't good to this story after the 2 stitches was the cost of the blades...

regards
john

usually i kill my motor then slam full + pitch and it hops up a foot or so then that slows the blades down real good

You shouldn`t try that without traininggear..... the heli will tipover, maybe not the first time you do that..but the second of 10th time.
Anyway, that`s not a good way to slow down you`re blades.

You should use negative pitch and wait till the blades get slowed down a bit (mine does that very fast at -10).

Be safe,

Rich

I agree, no reason to slam full pitch at all. You can gradually apply it, its the same thing. I used to do that too when i had training gear, looks cool and all but you never know what crap you can do wrong. You're better off applying pitch gently in negative degrees.

My God!!! Get some Nair on those gams!!!

Kidding aside, I know that had to hurt...in several different ways when you have to replace those blades. Hope you heal quickly!

Also, remember those 710's and 720's can really "reach out and touch you," if you ignore the tip path.
