I have recently got a Hacker c40-8L and 40-3p heli ESC (I know it is the heli version since it has govenor mode)

Anyways, this is happenned in the past a couple of times but today it really caused problems. Also with two different batteries

Equipment:
C40-8L 16 tooth pinion (over 1800 rpm)
8 cell nimh packs
Futaba PCM 7C radio
Stock blades
gy240

Here's the deal.

I get into a hover and everything seems to be going fine, then all of the sudden power gets cut from the motor. If I move the throttle down just a couple of ticks, I'll get some power back but not full power. I can then start it back up and get to hover again, but it happens again. As quickly as I can get it stopped, The temp on the ESC was only 135 degree and the motor was a little cooler

I did some searching on this site and found several potential explanations:

- Futaba receviers don't quite put out enough voltage and can cause problems
- using the ESC bec can cause probems
- A belt driven helicopter can build up static electricity and discharge, hurt the ESC
- thermal shutdown of the ESC can behave this way

Can ANYONE give me some direction on this. today I broke a landing strut and blade grip. It is very hard to get any practice time in when IO can't even count on the helicopter to keep power.

It is driving me crazy!!!!

It sounds like the LVC is kicking in. Was your battery pack fully charged? Is it any good? What kind of pack is it? Do you have a different pack you can try? What kind of battery pack connector are you using?

Yes, The pack was fully charged. 10 cell pack (I put the wrong info in the post). It is a 3000Mah nihm and it took 2953mah.

I also tried another 10 cell pack with the same results.

From what I understand, The heli version only has the Low voltage cutoff when less than 5 volts. that would be .5 volt/cell with 10 cells. Very low.

I am going to call Hacker USA and see what they have to say.

Also, how about trying a UBEC. Could that be mine problem?

What connectors are on your battery packs? Does the connector get warm?

I'm running the UBEC on mine because I have a Kontronik ESC without the BEC. Never had any problems. I'm not sure how your problem could be related to the BEC though. You may want to stick a voltmeter on there and check the voltage while pulling a load.

Sent the motor and controller to hacker a couple of weeks ago. Just heard from Hacker.

Their exact words.

"The controller was going goofy. so we replaced your controller."

I should have it by next week.

Now, the question is, do I still need to get a UBEC instead of using the BEC on the controller. I am thinking so.

thoughts?

Rodney,

I've used my 40-3p ESC with and without using the BEC function and have seen no difference at all. Flight times are unaffected and the system works great in either mode. Good Luck!!
