I have a few thing that I want to make and I think CAD is the best way to go. Where can get materials like carbon fiber tubing and sheeting, same gose for fiberglass and anyother materials. Maybe I could use some metals too.

I thought up some inventions and want to make them come true.

I've been using free TurboCad LE software- it's 2 dimensional but works fine. Stock Drive Products has different metric shafts and gears. A local plastic supply house can supply you with G10 glass sheet. Some of the custom carbon suppliers that advertise here on RR can supply small quantities of graphite sheet, or you can order large quantities from Kinetic Composites.

Most of the cad systems are available for trial periods including the likes of Soliworks, Austocad etc and they are fully functional. This may fill your needs.

CAD software?

I think a good cad setup is ModelCAD3000. It's great for drawing plans. I've drawn up a few of them, built one and working on another. It cost around $150 (nothing too high-tech), but you can find it at www.designcad.com. It has all the airfoils you need to do whatever and several sample drawings to show what you can do with it.

For $100.00 you can get a legal copy of Autosketch by Autodesk. This is 2D CAD software. For about $600.00 you can get Autocad LT. Autosketch is enough for our applications as a 3D solid modeling package is severe overkill.

Try Rhino3D. Simply the best CAD program I have used. Very simple and it converts and saves in many formats. If your a student or have someone in the family that is the discount is great!
