anything you can download for free

seriously, though. Ulead videostudio seven for beginners. Full DV support. Then move on to vegas video 4.0 when you're ready for it. I think Videostudio 7 is like 50 bucks give or take now. Just my opinion. I have used both. Vegas is a bit more complex but in the long run a good program.
