I understand the size of the zoom makes living room flying near impossible. I also hear that it has almost zero wind tolerance outdoors. Somebody please give me some perspective as otherwise living in the UK, it will become an expensive paperweight.

Where do you fly your zoom, in what conditions and what are/were the results? Clearly in the absence of a sport centre indoor 3d is a fantasy, or am I wrong?

No outdoor flying?... that's not correct...there are guys flying the Zoom/Shogun/Dolphin in gust of up to 15 mph...not that it's recommended to fly in hurricanes ) but outdoor flying in moderate breeze is quite possible..thanks to the bird's heavier weight and collective pitch. There are some videos around of guys flying them outdoors and in one of the forums there are guys discussing the hazards of landing hard in the grass.


Living rooms maybe a tad small but if yours is big enough and you can move the furniture around or out... simple hovering shouldn't be too much of an issue.... My living room is way too small and I can't move my chairs and couch anywhere...but I have a small backyard to play in... big enough to hover a Raptor 50.

I live on the beach front on the Gulf of Mexico where we have daily winds averaging 5-15knots and gusty. I have flown my Zoom/Dolphin 400 nearly everyday since mid February this this year in all but storm conditions and it handles these conditions with no problems. At 480grams and with CP control it works like a champ Just my experiences

What about in England?

Anyone braved a windy english day yet? Need clarification as I am also now considering the Eolo (Which will definately brave the wind). Also you guys and guy that flies on the beach, do you struggle to stay in control, i.e. is it tossed about a lot? Need specifics as I have little outdoor heli experience.

It does get tossed now and then by a gust. The secret in my experience is to keep the head speed up so the cyclic remains effective and use the pitch to manage the altitude (and you will be countering up and down drafts BTW). Don't be afraid to power out of a problem and fly through any unexpected input from the wind. I totally believe that if you have a decent CP heli, flying in the wind sharpens flying skills rapidly. A calm weather flying day leaves me unchallenged except for the predicaments I pilot myself into

Glad you asked this question r1gga as I would like to know aswell,asked the same thing a while ago and didn't get the answer I was looking for been told by others to go the logo 10 route for park flying but when you add it all up it costs quite a bit, might get a H2 for flying in my back garden let me know if you get one and how it handles the English weather.

I hovered my Zoom in the garden, it's only an average sized garden with the usual kids obstacals to avoid (swings, slides etc) and not forgetting the heli killer washing line . I hovered yesterday and the wind was blowing slightly, my garden is sheltered below the 6` level but the Zoom wasn't misbehaving at all. I certainly wouldn't attempt to do anything other than tail in with an Eolo where the Zoom is that little bit smaller so its comfortable to move it around in a confined space. I flew it in a carpark on Monday and it was quite windy for me to be test flying the Zoom maybe 10mph but the Zoom handled without a problem.

The way things are panning out the Eolo would cost maybe 500, 600 quid to get 3D capable (please correct me if I'm wrong). Whereas I can get the zoom with bits for £270.

I would still like to see a video of the zoom in a reasonable British gust. If any of you guys have a video camera, but don't go breaking anything!

The new video also has a nice "explosion" in the end, just to show whats happen when one of the flybar screws choose to jump overboard.
