I have decided on a Logo 10 heli (I was thinking of a JR Voyager).

Now I need to decide on the motor/ESC. I have searched the forums but could not find the answers to my questions.

I am an intermediate pilot who flies basic aeros (No 3D) with a 30 Nitro.

Having looked at the Mikado website, they suggest a B50-15L or 16L motor for an intermediate. Most forums I have read seem to have people using a B50 or C50 13L. I am looking at using Li-Pos but do not want to go to extreme costs.

I have a couple of questions.

What would be best for me, 13L or 15,16L? Should I go for the C (as opposed to the B) motors, they appear better.

Will the Hacker Heli ESCs work in Governor mode with the C motors (I have read that they won't)?

Is the 40-3P Hacker ESC suitable?

If you have another setup that you could recommend as well as answering my questions I would be most grateful.

I have used Hacker C50-15L with a 15T pinion gear, and C50-13L with a 13T pinion gear on 12cell of HRSC2600. Both work good for mild 3D, but the C50-15L will have a liitle longer duration. If you are going to use a Hacker/Jeti ESC then get a Heli version for example a 48-03pH. Main blade are also important. MAH 500mm or MS 515mm, and they give better performance plus longer duration flight than the stock wood one.

Good decision.

It looks like high voltage is going to be the standard now that LiPos have come along so you might want to consider 8s2p with a Hacker B50-15XL or 16XL or an outrunner like a Pletti Orbit (see http://runryder.com/helicopter/t99793p1/ )

Logo 10

Schulze 18.46K ESC
UBEC
14T pinion
I am planning to use the Flightpower Li-Pos.

Hopefully this will be OK.

I ordered the stuff from FXAeromdels. I haven't received it yet but the service so far has been first class!

That will work but you should consider an HV setup as I indicated earlier. You'll get less bogging. Have you put your setup data in K.C.'s Spreadsheet yet?

I copied the above setup from another site where several people seemed to be having success. I am not an expert in the electrics field so wanted something proven.

I am only an intermediate pilot so will only be doing basic aeros at the moment. I do want the setup to be capable of inverted hovering and hovering flips in the near future. I am not ready for hard 3D yet.

I have tried KCs spreadsheet but I don't really understand what the important figures to look for are. If someone could tell me what figures are important I would be grateful. If someone could run the above setup through the spreadsheet and explain the results that would be great also. Alternatively if you have that setup and can tell me what the flying performance and duration is like with 4s4p li-pos I would be most interested.

Sure, the 4s4p setup works well and is far superior to NiCds or NiMHs but why stop there? The improvement with an HV setup is significant. Here are some numbers from the spreadsheet. In this example, the "HV" system uses 8s2p LiPos and a Hacker B50-15XL. The "LV" setup uses 4s4p and a C50-13L:

HV:

Battery Current @ 100W/lb = 17.1A
Efficiency = 88.3%
Motor Loss = 2.7W/oz
RPM @ 100W/lb = 1988 (458W)
Flight time = 13.4 min
RPM Drop from Hover = 44

LV:

Battery Current @ 100W/lb = 35.1A
Efficiency = 84.7%
Motor Loss = 3.5W/oz
RPM @ 100W/lb = 1819 (452W)
Flight time = 13.0 min
RPM Drop from Hover = 95

The HV setup is better in EVERY respect.

That's excatly the same set up as I am using and I wouldn't changed a thing on mine. You will not regret getting a Logo 10.

I got about 23mins flight with the Flightpower 4s4p pack this Sunday
