I've been using JR equipment exclusively, but decided to get a Futaba GY502. I am confused on how to plug in the Aux lead from the gyro. I'm using a JR 10SX tx & rx. Should the lead go into Ch5 (Gear) or should it go into Aux2?
I read some where that JR guys using Futaba gyros were plugging it into Aux 2 to use GYRO SENS function; however, the Futaba 502 manual says to plug it into CH5. Which is correct?

I have a 10X and a GY601, and I plug my gyro sensitivity into Aux2.
On the 10X, this gives the option of using the Aux2 switch for the gyro setting or Auto which switches with flight mode. You set up the sensitivity in Code 44.
I did have it plugged into the gear channel for a while. This means to adjust the sensitivity you use the ATVs on the gear channel in code 12 (IIRC).

Personally, i now have mine set to auto switch with flight mode.

Good luck

Is this right?

Well I think I got it. I plugged into Aux 3 and used the Auto function in Function 44 of TX. You can also set it on Aux 3 Switch, to switch setting manually.

Someone else recommended this site that was helpful in explaining the "how to", but did not explain "why".

http://members.rogers.com/bob00/

According to that site he set it up for AVCS mode all the time. But I was able to set the 502 to Normal mode by setting my sensitivity to 49% or below and set the AVCS mode by setting it 50% or above. There is a chart that depicts this in the instruction manual.

I want to use AVCS only in Idle 1 and 2, so I set it up as:

Normal to 20% and it gave me 46% on the gyro in Normal.
Idle 1 to 80% and it gave me 24% on the gyro in AVCS.
Idle 2 to 60% and it gave me 12% on the gyro in AVCS.

The lower I set the sensitivity (0%), the higher the normal mode on the gyro, and the higher I set it (100%), the higher the AVCS on the gyro.

I haven't flown it yet, so these settings are just preliminary. But, from turning the helicopter and watching the rudder servo, it works.

Is this correct?

Strega, The problem with your set-up is you MUST start the 401/502/601 in ACVS (HH) mode! Your set up has code 44 setting the gyro to non HH in normal mode...so to get the 502 to set up properly you would need to switch the transmitter on...switch to idle up 1 or 2 and turn on the receiver...then switch back to nornal flight mode for starting the engine! If you use the gear channel (5) you can simply start the 502 in ACVS (HH) switch to non HH whenever you want/need to. Also be aware that you cannot use code 47 (T/R mix ) at all! If you start the 502 and it sees any offset such as the code 47 revo mix would produce (hover in the center, right T/R at full collective and left T/R at low collective) it will interpet it as a command to change the gyros center (trim) position. you can make a mix (code 51-58) that mixes pitch (ch6) to rudder (ch4). "The problem with your set-up is you MUST start the 401/502/601 in ACVS (HH) mode!"

This isn't entirely true. You can reset the offest when the gyro has initialised by toggling it between the two modes. If you have a seperate switch for gyro gain, this means flicking this back and forth a couple fo times. If you assign the gain to flight modes, this means toggling that switch a few times (assuming that your different gains are between HH and Normal).

Ok, you're right...if I had my T/R-Gyro set up great the last time I flew, I would WANT have to re-set the gyro when I fly again...? If you set the GY series of gyros up like the manual says; hover in non-HH (with no T/R mixes ) and trim the tail for hover ( with the pushrod links), then land and toggle the mode switch 3+ times and leave it in ACVS (HH) mode. You just told the GY where the hover set point is and it will use this point for both the HH and non-HH modes as long as you switch the gyro on in ACVS mode! If you start the 502 in non-hh mode you would need to go to your hover point (exactly to it because you will also have a T/R mix in normal mode constantly changing the point where the T/R is) and do the three flicks of the switch thing and hope you got the center set without the T/R revo mix interfering with the setting. Why? If I want a gyro I constantly need to mess with I would still have JR gyros... life is too hard already without making a simple on/off switch difficult! Just my opinion of course! Chris

Ok...?

Maxx,

So what your saying is to setup ACVS mode, you must use HH mode first to establish your centerpoint/base. And from then on, you can switch to Normal or ACVS. Otherwise, you have to go through the back and forth switching that you describe prior to startup.

So what about this: Instead of using Auto Gyro Sens switching, can I use the Aux 3 switch and have three manual switchable sensitivity modes provided that I start the flight in ACVS?

Strega, yep, that oughta do it...
David, you have more experience with the GY gyros than I do but I have started my 502 and my 601 in nonHH and the center changed... besides, the instructions say start in HH so I do...the one time I read the instructions (according to my bride)...they BETTER be correct! BTW, do you think you can make the SHARKS FF in September? Chris
