hey team ...

my house burnt almost 2 months ago ... had an rc10gt (i found the body controller and vhs tape molten together!!!)... couple hopups ... but a car gets boring after a while ... always dreamed of a chopper ...

made my home work ... pretty much made my mind for a venture cp ...
read some bad stuff about rap.

ill probably end up taking a basic or midrange Tx ... no ideas yet ...
id like some comments and/or proposals ... heard that airtronics or jr were good choices (might as well stay 100% jr!)

as well as strange newbie related stories if u want ...

anyway ...

oh, btw, I AM GOING TO BUY A SIM and a controller for it FIRST (heli is after i can do stuff)

i am on a budget tho ... im willing to put more to get something worthwhile ... but ... money IS still an object ... just something good enough so i can learn and go on ...

help would be much appreciated ...

thanks Lep!

Don't be afraid to buy a Raptor, if you knew how many are out there flying great compared to the ones on these list that complain you'd be amazed at how problem free they really are. My R30 and R60 have both been just great, no WhaWha's, wobble's, bad vibes, shakes, no shredded tail gear's (R60), no clutch problems, no woof and or poof just lot's of good fun.

Yea what he said
You can't come to a site like this and not see problems with something.
Every list I have joined for Powerstroke diesels , LS1 Camaros, Goldwings,
Man If I would have gone to these sites before I got each of these vehicals I never would have gotten a one of them.
But I never had the problems everyone else had.
So, that said.
I don't have a raptor, But there are a bunch out there.
There may be better Helis out there but none better supported for parts.
Something to really consider.

Dude .. I have both

I have both of em . I am not sure how much you are familiar with ccpm.. If not Raptor is a better choice but with more moving parts . Good thing about Raptor is , parts are available everywhere . Both fly great ..but I would say if Ventures Hover characteristics are little on plus side . (what I experienced )

I have G2 with all the addons and the controller.
Yea it would be nice to use my own , But this one is much lighter and there are no batteries to run down.
Thats the down side
you have to have your transmitter on to use it.
As far as realizm
I guess its pretty real
feels real to me.

I started flying with a raptor and found a guy in the area that knows them in and out . I have no problems with it and I think it flys great. Find your local heli expert and talk to him and see what he is flying. Take his advice , because, trust me you will need his help if it is your first heli.In the mean time do as much reading as you can about helicopters, because there is a lot to know.

Good choice deciding to get a sim. The best one is Great Planes RealFlight G2 with the USB InterLink controller.
I don’t think you need all the add-ons. You can always get them latter. Although if you get the raptor I think that add-on #3 has a raptor 30 and 60 in it so you might want to get that one.

What is "woof & poof"?
To quote Doug's reply to aseprate thread
"I believe that term started with the Shuttle. The blades go out of track at a low pitch in flight 2-3" and would hit the tail boom The out of track makes a 'woof' sound and the exploding heli accounts for the 'Poof' .The Raptor only does the 'Woof'"

We have both Raptors and are pleased with them. Flies well, parts are readily available locally. Where in Canada are you? I guess you didn't realize when you filled out the info that its a big country. If we knew where you were maybe we could invite you out to a local field to check em out first hand. P.S. you can make a lot of friends really quickly in you bring Tim Horton's coffee.

Well, I thought I would post and say that I am pretty much in the same boat. Well, maybe just one step ahead I guess.

I have decided that I am going to get into the heli hobby. I have been reading all I can find for about a month now, and I already bought Real Flight G2 with the TX and have already learned to hover pretty darn stable in both tail in AND nose in. I haven't had much luck at forward flight or side in yet though. I know I have been trying more than I should with the SIM but I just get bored hovering So I need a heli to make me pace myself ! An instructor would be NICE too !

I figure I might as well spend some bucks and get decent equip to start out so I have decided on a Futaba 9CHP PCM radio (or is plain FM good enough to start?), the FUT GY401 w/ 9253 servo combo, OS 32 engine, but when it comes to the heli....I can't make up my mind. I'm hung up between a Rappy 30 and a Century Hawk IV. I've read good things about both, but SOME negative things about the Rappy. Your guys comments would be MUCHO appreciated.

Starting Out

The importance of finding a local pilot to help you out cannot be overstated. There is no substitute for having someone help you set up your heli and make sure you have it assembled correctly. Your chances of success are greatly increased if you get some competent help. Plus, you might make a new friend in the process.

All of the major helis are good ones. Raptors (I have a Raptor 50 and I love it), Falcons, Hawks, Ventures, Shuttles, and Sceadus are all great helis. The point is you can't really go wrong no matter what you choose, so choose what is flown at your local field. That way you can use the experience of the pilots in your area to your advantage.

On a side note, FM is fine and the 9C will be plenty to start off with.

thnx for all that info ...

well,

i have been readin alot ... played around with fms (with my keyboard tho) ...

i live in montreal ... and definatly get my first couple flights at a club or with someone ... talked to my hobby guy ... its a ride to get there but its the best service around here ... distribution au modelistes ...

HE DOESNT OFFER THE RAPTOR ... (he doesnt like it) ... offered me a nexus being the cheapest ... or a venture if im willing to pay the extra bucks ... best thing is ... that he has all the parts for the venture ...

so i think ill go with that ... as for the radio ... ill need your advice as well as his (and my wallet's approval!) ... im willing to put good money ... but i dont want bells and whisltles ... (useless ones) ...

anyway ...

if you know of clubs or people around the montreal area ... keep me and them posted ...

but i wont get the heli now anyway ... not enough money ... gotta put my lazy ass to work

but i got enough for the rx and sim ... which do come first in a rationnal order ...

anyway ... thanks people ...

love that newbie dedication around here ... :P
