What head speeds do you use for a camera ship with 600mm blades? I have a R50 and can't quite decide what I want to use.

NoSoMo:

It depends on the heli, but usually as slow as possible and still fly well.

Sometimes you will find that the tail won't hold as well on some helis when they are flying below their designed headspeed and they start to wobble.

For example, I love the Maxi-Joker at 1100 to 1200rpm, but it has 800mm mains and 130mm tail blades so I can get away with it! Very stable and no vibrations to speak of there. I'm still playing with the Joker-CX, but that one seems to be happier around 1400rpm with the 700mm mains and 107mm tail blades.

I don't think you will be able to run the Rappy-50 much below 1500, and even at that go with the longest tail blades you can - maybe 95mm NHP tail blades with the wide chord as long as you aren't doing hard 3D with it inbetween camera flights.

I have a couple Helis and this one is a camera ship only. I'll try the 1500rpm range and see how it works, I have noticed it needs larger TR blades though, what's the stock R60 have?

I've decided to go with 102mm TR blades since it won't hurt. This won't be going upside down and I could go with 110mm blades before I'd have to worry about a collision.

Then you aren't running a stock Raptor-50. With 600mm mains the most you can run on the tail of a stock machine are 95's before they will hit the mains. And start scraping the ground!

Do you have a longer tail boom?

Nope, it's a stock R50.

102's will hit the ground, but this will not be flown without the mount. Using the 110s still gives you about 6mm clearance between them and the blades with about 10lbs of weight bending them down.

Went today and just bought some R60 TR blades, they work great, just don't fly with out the cam mount or you may shorten them unintenionally.

I just verified for myself today (don't ask! ) on my Raptor-50V2 that 95mm tail blades and 600mm mains WILL hit without pushing the heli too hard.

Do yourself a favor, return the big ones and get the recommended 93mm blades. Or have plenty of spares on hand...

I've been flying today with the 600 TT CF blades and the R60 TR blades. I measured the 60s TR blades, they seem to only be about 15mm longer than the standard 30/50s.I guess that makes them 95s?

My setup is pretty heavy and the Heli won't be flown with out the mount.

I also found out that slower head speed isn't better, cuz it slows down the TR too. This combined with the r30 gearing almost puts no load on the engine and with a TJPRO it's constantly correcting the throttle. I think a 1450 or so head speed when using the 30 gearing works best.
