Hi. I was spending some time looking for info on F3D pylon racing engines and found that Dub Jett makes heli engines.

Have any of you guys used them or ever seen them ?

I have only seen their aircraft engines and they are very powerfull and reliable. Make an OS look like a toy !!

There web site is : jetengineering.com
Lots of info on racing engines but very interesting esp. on engine setup.

Thanks

Paul,

A friend of mine put a Jett .78 in his Pro2K. It was a disaster.

The engine made a ton of power (pulled 13 degrees and increased headspeed the whole way), but the midrange and transition was horrible. We could NOT get the engine to run smoothly or consistantly and anything less than full power.

The tuned muffler that has to be run with the engine was so loud that we lost one of our best flying sites because of noise complaints from the neighbors. It sounded a lot like a 2-cycle motorcross engine without any exhaust.

If you plan on only drag racing the heli, I don't think anything would be able to beat you. But for power and consistancy for everyday flying, I would go with either the YS .80 or OS .91.

Hi,

I've spent some time trying to get one running good. Stock exhaust divertor lasted one flight, think I may of expierenced hearing loss after using it.

Drilled the motor and mounted a hatori 90 muffler on it, much quieter. Runs fine but on quick transitions from mid to full throttle back to mid (stall turns) acts like its hanging on the pipe, just makes some weird noises and causes a little vibration. Acts like its running on a pipe, my os61 on a muscle pipe had the exact same problem.

Its smooth in a hover, fff, descents and transitions pretty good as long as its not a quick transition. I also tried a muscle pipe, ran extremely rough on it.

It runs hot which kinda makes me beleive the 90 muffler is'nt large enough for it. Tried quite a few different mufflers, quite a few types of fuel (10%/18%, 10%/20%, 15%/20%, 20%/20%, 20%/24%, 30%/24%), os#8's, enya #3's, gv-1 on and gv-1 off, 9 to 1, 9.3 to 1.

It ran good enough for me to try for a year but the quick transitions are a problem and are going to happen in flight. It may of been happier at the lower ratios (8 to 1, 8.4 to 1) but by then I was tired of messing around!

To sum it up my ys80 (except for the gv-1 thingy, new st2 barrel is installed and will be tried this weekend) and os91 (perfect out of the box) are running great, the jett 76h is going into a plank

Crunch all you want, they will make more. Please use rr's pm feature to contact me.
