There is no V2

The "Zoom" at flying hobby is not a Zoom but a different product (Dolphin). It has got nothing to do with Protech and doesn't include manual, decals and you don't get any warranty/support. Buy one at your own risk!

Relax Dennis. There's plenty of customer base to go around. Hope you don't tell us not to buy the Shogun 400 from Hobby People or the Zoom that is being sold by www.RcmHeli.com online 'cuz they are all the same heli all from the same factory in Taiwan. I have one from an LHS in Finland, two direct from Taiwan and two from flying hobby.com and they are all the same merchandise.

Let's see $199.00 USD from Hong Kong and $297.00USD(based on todays exchange rate) from Protech. You better have one heck of a warranty program 'cuz the decals and the english manual(which is now downloadable from three different sources for free) can't equal the $98.00 difference in purchase price.

Warning us to stay away from a legitimate low priced source for a heli that has at least four names at this point(Dolphin/Zoom/Shogun/MicroStar) is a lot like herding cats. I read on the Ikarus BBS that you folks had 1400 on back order. Global has about 400 presold. When will the manufacturer catch up with the demand?

I am glad to see that you are addressing the things that need improvement. Introduction of the graphite loaded crown gears was a step in the right direction but I got my first one from Taiwan. So who's doing the design work?

Things that need to be addressed on this heli are as follows:

1. Main frame/spur gear interference - otherwise known as the white powder syndrome. The spur gear should not rub on the side frames.

2. T/R drive shaft problems - Carbon fiber hex input stub needs to be replaced with a metal piece. Center, bronze, tail boom, bushing that eats the CF drive shaft in half, needs to be a ballbearing like the HP anodized tailboom comes with.

3. The T/R pushrod (wire) needs to be upgraded in the basic kit. The flimsy wire in a nylon sleeve is a non-starter for tail rotor pitch control that absolutely needs to be slop free and precise.

Some of these are noticeable in the first flight and some have shown up after 2 1/2 hours flying time.

Last item - offer the kit without the "stone" of a brushed motor as a lower cost option.

It's a great heli but it's not like it was designed in Belgium. If you want to see something wrong ask the Ikarus folks about the glut of Piccolo clones in the market place.

I will always go for the best value and the Dolphin 400 was the best buy at the time for me and also the only thing that was available. BTW I have two sets of Carbon Fiber main rotor blades inbound from flying hobby.com for my Dolphins. I got the last two sets he had in stock thanks to some forum friends of mine. I'll post my impressions when I have them as this may be the answer to the flimsy original blades that remind me of the Kyosho "foamies" on the EP Concept that we all hated so much a few years back.

Oops, looks like Protech in Belgium got caught in a lie.

Bussiness.101: "It cost seven times more money to get a new customer than it does to maintain your current ones".

Protech does not make the Zoom? They are distrubutors?

The Plot thickens...............

Please be my guest. We need some CNC aluminum goodies for this baby and your work is always top drawer. How about a CNC head and blade grips for the main rotor for starters and then a CNC T/R gear box with ball raced bell crank and T/R blade grips and hub

Check this out too if you like............

in regards to a new Zoom 400 version 2 here is an email I just got:

Hi Scott

There will be no V2 coming out, Fung started saying that there would be, but this is not true. There will be upgraded items for the Zoom 400 coming out and some of those parts are available now.

Mel

Very Nice parts Fung.

How about a pic of your Gyro Mount?

I have dealt with Fung and I have nothing but positive remarks for him.

Thanks,

Robert

flying hobby.com had tested ZOOM400 Version2 and found that some parts ,components of Version2 have some problems. For customers' benefit, flying hobby.com would not import ZOOM400 Version2 now. Therefore , ZOOM400 Version2 would in stock later.flying hobby.com would still sell ZOOM400 Version1and our ZOOM400 Version1'some parts have been upgraded.Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
