I was wondering in Idle up1,2 can you use revolution mixing? I know the manuel says to turn all of it off, but is this just for the heading hold feature in normal mode? Or does it affect the whole radio regardless. I am using a 401/9253 and a 8u radio.

if you're in heading hold mode, DO NOT use
revolution mixing. I assume the 8U lets you turn
revo mixing on/off in the various flight modes.

You shouldn't need and also shouldn't use revo mixing with the heading hold feature on regardless whether you are in idle up or normal. When using the gyro without the heading hold on you should use revo mixing.

Rate Mode

Just fly heading hold let the gyrpo do the work. The days of learning rate are over. After flying heading hold for awhile. If you try rate mode it's not that hard. I tried to learn on rate and I think it made flying heading hold harder to get used to at first . I was used to the tail tracking the nose. I got alot of bad advice early on. It there use it.
But make sure all rev mix is off with that gyro in HH mode. You will have a constant piroette on your hands you touch the collective.
I think i will make a vote on that for gee wiz

8U and Revo

You'll have to turn off Revo completely. The 8U will not let you select Revo on or off as you change idleups.

The 8U has independent revo mixes for the idle ups, hover and hold. If the mixes are independent, any or all could be set for a straight line, which would be the same as having no mix. Before HH gyros ever were invented, we ran a straight tail comp line in hold so the tail blades would stay flat at neutral rudder with a driven tail.

Of course, the info about never using revo mix with a HH gyro is accurate, but the 8U does give the pilot interested in running a tail comp curve in only one idle up the ability to do so.

I flew from 1975 till 2001 without a gyro, then I went to 401/9253 and it took one tank to "learn" to fly with HH. Why would you want anything else?
