OK now I'm really confused,
Maybe I should explain my reasons for asking and hopefully all will become clear.
I am in desperate need of a new transmitter and I was wondering if transmitters from elsewhere other than the UK were compatible. Hope that makes things clearer.
By the way thanks for the replies

I think I am correct in saying that if you buy a Futaba (FF9 or 9ZHP) that uses the module in the back you can buy from anywhere in the world and all you will need for use in the UK is the 35mhz module plus crystal for use here in the UK. I took my old FF8 to the US and used a borrowed 72mhz module plus rx without any problems. I don't know how JR systems work but Dave Wiltshire flies in US contests and I would guess that he does not have a specific TX for US use only !!

Thanks Moose,
So are these modules readily available and do you have to be a genius to fit them or do they just slot in like an interface?
Is the FF8 the same?

The 8u/FF8, 9C/FF9 and 9Z seires from Futaba The 9Z version will not work in the other 2 and the JR/Graupner 10X, and 8103/3810 all use a Module. It simply plugs into the back of the TX. VERY EASY to change. Oh and there are some tray stlye radios that use them too. The above are all US model and versions. Also the same mod will not work between different manufactures.

I have been able to order the modules at the Local Hobby shops here in Germany with NO PROBLEM. They are all listed in the Robbe catalog, nice pretty pictures too.

This is an EASY thing to do.

As Ken said, you have to buy the correct module for the specific radio that you get, if you buy a FF9 you must get the correct FF9 35 mhz module. I can only speak about Futaba kit as that is all that I use. The 35mhz modules are readily available in the UK and I think the last time that I purchased one it was about £60 - but that was a couple of years ago !!

Again, Ken summed the change up nicely - it is VERY simple on Futaba ( and I guess JR) , just switch the module in the back of the radio - no covers etc. to remove, it takes about 5 seconds to do !!

Steve,
I bought my FF9 from Cyber Heli. Just tell them you want it on 35mhz for UK and Stephen will do it, no problem. Also saved a fortune on UK Price. (FF9, TX bat, Rx bat, Charger, R149 Rx and crystals. £359 including P&P) PS you may or may not have to pay VAT on delivery.
