I see a lot of Vigors with the mpII cspec91 set up-none come close to the speed and power of CY's(or Alan's Rappy) from what I have seen in the videos. Are these guys getting super-mod motors or what?I got the money, why can't we get the same performance?Does anyone know what ratios, headspeeds, and blade sizes these two guys run? They sound like buzzsaws compaired to everybody else's machines.

It's weird how that is, I feel the same way. I really think it's an illusion. Curtis said he was running 17xx at a fly in once and I didn't believe it so I tached it and it was exactly what he said. I haven't second guessed any of them since. I think it's just the flying ability and setup.

They don't climb off the ground though, they explode off like bottle rockets. Also if you watch the maximum 3d tape-look how fast CY's ship is compaired to all but a rare few.

I'll check those out this weekend at the show.I can't help feeling like a sheep.I saw the tape when I got into this in Jan 03.I tried to duplicate CY's set up because of how impressed I was.It is fast but nowhere like his with the same parts.

I just watched Alan and Curtis drag race at the Reno Rotary Fun Fly and Alan won 3 X, including all inverted backwards racing. So at least at this event Alan's Rappy was faster, but both were still faster than all the rest.

Supposedly there's a new pump that will go in the backplate area on the C-Spec. I'd have to believe that this is the motor that they are running.

Guys, Curtis has been running a Dual Plug Viper Heads from OMI like alot of other pilots have. (Panos, Stark, Todd, Jason, Henery, Stokes)

Alan is just plain really really really good on collective management! and engine setup He has also run the Viper Heads on his machines.

These are two plug heads and the head squish area is a bit diffrent than that of the stock heads.

Both are using MP2's and Curtis is running between 1750-1800 head speed with (I believe) a 8.0:1 to 8.2:1 gear ratio (from talking with him a couple weeks ago)

I run the ys91's with dual plug viper heads and there IS alot of performance diffrence! I was running a SB16 Hatori, and just switched to the MP2 to put the engine in a better power range with the 8.0:1 ratio and 1780 head speed.

I´m not and expert, but I think you need to use the same equipment in order to get the same performance, including radio, servos, gyro... and % of nitro.
I´d like an engine and fuel with a 97% of nitro and 3% of klotz oil (testimonial oil?). Maybe, in this case, my heli will be the first in orbit around the earth.

Not exactly....

Radio.... na... Curtis is JR Alan is Airtronics, and I fly Futaba. But a 4 chanel plane radio just will not do.

Servos... brand no, level of equal to or better, yes A futaba 3001 is a no no.

Gyro.... high end gyro is a must for that level of flight!

Nitro.... Yes, 30% Brand, No. Curtis is Morgan, Alan is PowerMaster, I fly Wildcat. All work just fine or we would be using them.

Engine Size.... 91 weather its a OS or YS It must be tuned right and these guys are masters at that!

---

Really you do need to have the same level of quality equipment, but you see, there can still be options to not have EXACTLY what they use and still get top level performance.

Its developing about the same power. Just a little lean in the mid range. Have not tried it with viper head yet. Still running it with the stock head.

Hi Alan, sorry if this is a little random, but what is your rappy 50 set up? Also, i've been breaking in my new TT50 engine, and have found that it runs really lean, i've been richening out the low and high end needles, but it hasn't seemed to help as much as i expected, is this just the engines normal habbits, or am i doing something wrong? Helikid32 suggested i put a small piece of fuel tubing over the main needle, becuase it could be "leaking" air into the mixture? Thanks alot,
Aaron

I talked to Todd and Jason at Snohomish last month, and they were saying it isn't the motors, it's energy management.

Of course this doesn't really apply to a drag race type scenerio...

Not just managing the collective, but transitioning from one move to the next in a way that maintains momentum. I watched Jason fly a few machines that were did not belong to him [his machines were lost in transit I believe] and they all flew very fast and had seemed to make loads power. When the owners of them, they didn't look that impressive anymore.

good point Travis. I always used to believe they had some secret gear under their canopy, then when you see them do the exact same stuff with someone elses heli, it's just amazing! I had mine test-flew by a very good pilot and I never even knew it was even capable of that stuff! They all do a great job.

Does Jason use the YS91?

Last I heard and saw, Jason was flying the OS91 C-Spec with the OMI ViperHead, Kline regulator and MP2 @ 8.18. Todd was flying the YS91, OMI ViperHead and Hatori SB-16 @ 8.45.
