e-E-Flite Blade CP CX 400-3D > Brushless DD Tail w/ GY401 - Sweet! (Video)

Here is my brushless tail setup:

CC10 programed to:
Cutoff Voltage: 4.0v
Current limiting: disabled
Brake Type: Disabled
Throttle Type: Fixed
Timing Advance: Low Advance <== unsure about this one
Cutoff Type: Soft
Soft Start: Soft Start

brushless tail: Great Planes Ammo 12-30-4110 In-Runner Brushless Motor

Gyro: GY401

prop: GWS 4530 prop

-------

Are the cc10 settings good? Is it ok to set the gyro to ds mode? If I run it in analog with delay to max, I sometimes get a nasty tail wag. However, with ds mode on there is no wagging. My concern by using ds mode is can the tail esc (cc10) burn out.

I've been using DS mode with all my tail configurations except with the stock 3-in-1 which didn't play well with DS mode

I'm glad to see more/other successful setups listed giving BLDD more exposure - The more reports of successful setups the more people will start weighing the price and performance of BLDD gaining it more popularity and putting an end to a lot of frustration out there

Like LouInSD said this is how it should really fly out of the box

Now I've been flying my H2 since my BLDD died and I actually can't seem to get as good of performance from the H2 stock tail mechanics as with my BCP's BLDD - Pirofunnels are floppier and I have to anticipate and compensate that with constant rudder commands if I want them smoother which is difficult - Also main rotor performance affects tail rotor performance with a driven tail so bogging the main rotor diminishes tail authority with it - I had to get used to that again

And now my H2 is down too because a gear slipped and failed causing the heli to spin off into a fence

Its good to know that DS mode will not damage the esc. How about the cc10 settings?

Well instead of ordering another Feigao I thought I'd try out the Medusa 012-030-4000 which I've had mounted almost a week now and have over a dozen flights on it so far

It has a longer shaft than the Feigao which pretty much penetrates all the way through the press-on props and it uses more commonly found 0-80 mounting screws - So far from what I can tell it seems to run cooler than the Feigao - But the Medusa is $15 more than the Feigao

I haven't tried my G90 with it and again I couldn't seem to match the feel of my GY401 with my 2100T with it while my GY401 perfoms every bit as well as with the Feigao motor - So as always my GY401 wins out with the smoothest feel and hold of all my gyros - Even when I was using a GWS brushed tail while waiting for the Medusa

Tonight I even got a new trick under my belt with my BCP pretty much nailing down inside/outside piro 8s and got in my first death spirals yesterday

I'm always tempted to get a Trex but my BL BCP keeps giving me plenty of satisfaction - Last year I thought I'd quickly outgrow it but instead it's far exceeded my expectations - Damn fun little heli

Uh, this thread is useless without video

I really want to see this!

Glad you got her in the air again. I havent flown mine recently. I bent the shaft on mine in a recent rough landing and haven't gotten around to getting a hole drilled in the homemade ejector rod shaft so it's been grounded while I spend most of my time with my 450's and my new 10s 600 monster.

I just got a 401 so I may try it on the BCP just to see how it compares to the 2100...

I ordered some servo wire in bulk from http://servocity.com/html/servos___accessories.html You have to strip one of the wires and press it against the middle of the other two for it to pass thru the boom. Also I carefully ran a drill bit where the wire enter's the frame. Solder another wire to them and pull them thru. It's tight but will go. They have some other cool stuff as well and I have enough wire to last a long time.

I was doing similar using normal gauge 18" servo extension leads cutting the plug off one end and peeling the wires apart so they'd fit through the boom then re-solder the plug back on

But while flying my repaired airframe with a brushed tail while waiting on my new BL tail motor I decided I'd take the opportunity to build a fresh frame set and while collecting the parts at the LHS I came across E-flite's new lightweight (not ultra) servo extension leads and feeling lazy about soldering new tail wires I grabbed one up to check out

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Product...rodID=EFLREX18L

I still had to separate the wires but they all fit through the boom without having to cut and re-solder 'em - Just slide the plug apart and peel the wires apart and stagger the metal connectors about an inch apart and feed all three wires together through the boom and frame then reassemble the plug

I was skeptical about the light wire being able to handle the job but it seems to be holding up with my new Medusa tail motor anyways

This is new to me. I recently switched to a bl rear motor(feigao) and esc(phoenix 10). Just stuck them on and tried to program the radio to work with them JR6102. Not very successful attempt.

How do you program the esc. do you unplug the main esc first?

Dumb question but, not sure how to get started.

Thanks,
Van

I haven't used the PHX10 - Just the TBs which don't really have any programming to 'em just plug-n-play

But you might try to play around with these settings while waiting for help from other PHX10 users http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/p2392534/

Hey Micro, do you know anyone that has experience with the CSM SL560 Micro Gyro? Any opinion's? I know it's costly at 199.00 but they're advertising as between a 401 and 601 performance. It has a lot of programable features as well which could be good or bad depending on how hard it is to setup. I have the G90 but just don't think I'm going to be satisfied. The 401 is heavy so I was looking for alternative's. Can you feel the difference with the weight of the 401 alot or does the heli still have plenty of snap. It look's good in the video's but I was just wondering.

I think Heliproz has them for about 100 bucks. Or you can buy one here on the classifieds for between 80 and 95 bucks. I bought 2 of them here...

Heliproz has great support though. I had a wire go bad, sent it in, they sent me a new one no questions asked.

Thank's LouinSD and Micro, I have orderd the 2100T. I'm going to try and put it up front. Have to see when it get's here. Does any one know how much the brushless tail weigh's compared to the brushed dd? Do you have any setup tip's for the 2100 Louin? It look's a little complicated.

Ok, I got my motor finally. I'm looking at wireing everything up I'm only confused on this one point. When I connect the 2100t and Tb-6 together should I just plug the esc's three wire male connector into the 2001's servo wire's female connection? Looking at the different wireing diagram's some seem to indicate that only the middle signal wire's should be connected together. But they're only using a two wire tail motor and it look's like there's only one signal wire on their esc.

Do the tail ESC lead like this and plug it into the 2100T
(lift the plastic tab and slide the center wire out of the plug)

I use shrink tube to insulate the loose wire

The RX/Servos/Gyro will get power from the main rotor ESC that you'll leave this wire connected on
